I stayed at the garden house hotel from Nov 08 to Dec 09,+ found it a thourghly enjoyable experience. The staff were extremely curteous + helpful, the owners Janet + John Finlayson made you very welcome just like home from home. Finally but definately not lastly the hotel cuisine was wonderful, first class chefs. more

We really enjoyed the warmth and charm of the bar and the conservatory where we dined. The food was terrific (Crab Gratin followed by Partridge) and the wine was outstanding at the price. The service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The log fire in the bar was particularly welcoming on a cold November day. more

First visit to Stamford. Husband is coeliac and staff very aware and helpful with his dietary needs, providing good bread and indicating food which was suitable. We enjoyed both breakfast and dinner. Bed large & comfy. Bathroom scrupulously clean but mirror far too high for me. Lighting in room very dim so mirrors pretty useless. Weather was glorious, which was... more

We had 1 night here due to attending a wedding nearby. I booked the room 9 mths in advance- we needed early check-in as I was doing the bride's hair that morning & then needed to be able to get ready myself before the 12.30pm ceremony. I was told the room would be ready at 9am & early check-in was... more

Historic old building, with a nice garden, and the breakfast was very good. But we were given a room in the attic, up three flights of the only (timber) staircase. The room was poor, the decor very tired, there was no window which could open, the ceilings were extremely low in the hallway on our floor. more

Average hotel, breakfast and food good. But accommodation needs to be updated, rooms small and old decor. Customer service was mixed. If can for the price stay at another hotel in the town. Good place to visit for something to eat/has a nice garden area at back of hotel. But not good to stay overnight. more

My wife and I had for a long time wished to visit Stamford, our intention being to stay at the George. But Tripadvisor reports tended to indicate that the Garden Hotel would be a better bet, so that is where we booked. Our room was perfectly satisfactory and the hotel had a pleasant garden, so there were no complaints there.... more

For a lovely old building with a beautiful garden and a good restaurant, the hotel was very diappointing. Room 3 was dark and pokey with early 80s decor, cheap furnishings and a tiny portable TV. The cheap pine bath panel was black with damp and the plastic showerhead disgorged water all over the bathroom floor. We were a bit alarmed... more

We had the opportunity to stay in this lovely little hotel in February, and wish to say thank you to everyone, the staff were friendly and totally efficient, the food fantastic, we ate there almost every night for the week we were there, the management, especially the course in Malt Whisky, knowledgeable :-) and all in all made what could... more

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Garden House. The excellent food and service more than compensated for the slightly tired bedroom decor - but with a comfortable bed, crisp cotton sheets and plenty of hot water who really cares. We had a road facing room (and an open window as I'm a fan of fresh air) the room was... more
