A delightful Sunday lunch in the oak-panelled dining room. The beef was absolutely first class. The service was clearly good but for us just the far side of over-attentive. When one server had asked if we wanted more wine pouring and we had said that we were fine thank you to have another come along and offer to do the... more

I have known the George for a long time because I used to live just outside Stamford. I got married there in 2007 and took a bunch of rooms for my and my wife's children for the weekend. We repeated the event (without the cerimony) in 2008. What I like most about the George is its informal, friendly atmosphere. It... more

We joined friends for dinner at the George of Stamford on the Friday evening during the 2009 Burghley Horse Trials and whilst the food was good, but nothing exceptional, my wife and I did not enjoy the occasion. For the third year running we experienced surly and rude service from the staff who once again rushed us through our meal... more

My husband and I have recently returned from a two night break at this hotel. We would recommend it. We stayed on a special tariff of £95 per night, per room, bed and breakfast. Our room, number 55, overlooking the courtyard was pretty, sunny, clean, quiet and comfortable. It was not very large, but it didn't matter unless you were... more

I went with my wife and two friends to the Garden Restaurant - Highly overpriced. I had the lobster with spaghetti - the spaghetti was the worst I’ve ever had anywhere - I've had better at a greasy spoon. The other's had dishes which were overpriced for the quality of the food on the plate - give this joint a... more

We had heard good things of the George and were not disappointed. Excellent room (thanks for the upgrade!) overlooking the courtyard - best hotel bathroom I've seen. Dined in both the restaurants - two good meals, well served. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for. Breakfast cooked to order - definitely not one of those unappetising buffets! Staff... more

Fascinating old hotel with a labyrinth of corridors but maintained to a high standard with wonderful service. The only disappointment was the restaurant - the service was well above the norm but the meals were rather bland and cold on arrival, especially when the above average cost was taken into consideration. Loved the location within an unspoilt historic town and... more

I wanted to treat my boyfriend to a fabulous weekend away for his birthday and we couldn't have had a better time. The food was wonderful. We had dinner in the informal garden lounge. Staff were very attentive and friendly. The room was very comfortable with tasteful decor overlooking the courtyard. Would definately recommend to others. more
