the george at stamford is without a rare find these days stayed for one night ( £95.00 bed and breakfast package) from the moment of checking in the service offered by all staff was first rate - the history of this coaching inn is amazing (as is stamford) our room ( 40 ) was at the front of the building... more

We had heard good things of the George and were not disappointed. Excellent room (thanks for the upgrade!) overlooking the courtyard - best hotel bathroom I've seen. Dined in both the restaurants - two good meals, well served. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for. Breakfast cooked to order - definitely not one of those unappetising buffets! Staff... more

Fascinating old hotel with a labyrinth of corridors but maintained to a high standard with wonderful service. The only disappointment was the restaurant - the service was well above the norm but the meals were rather bland and cold on arrival, especially when the above average cost was taken into consideration. Loved the location within an unspoilt historic town and... more

I wanted to treat my boyfriend to a fabulous weekend away for his birthday and we couldn't have had a better time. The food was wonderful. We had dinner in the informal garden lounge. Staff were very attentive and friendly. The room was very comfortable with tasteful decor overlooking the courtyard. Would definately recommend to others. more

Picked the George for a business meeting - needed somewhere halfway between Cambridge and Nottingham. Very pleasant place, old, charming, choice of bars/lounges, open fires, friendly service. We had a two hour meeting then a bar meal in the York bar, all good. We'll be using it now a regular venue. more

My family and I have visited the George on many an occasion and have always really enjoyed it. However, more recently we have noticed that things are not quite as perfect as they used to seem. For example, while some of the rooms have been modernised, there are a fair few which have yet to be updated. Just little things... more

A repeat stay in a Charming historic building and comfortable room ruined for me by appaling service and complaint handling. My abiding memory of the previous visit was the quality of the food. This was strong enough to overcome some reservations about the rate for the room, but at the hotel is pitched at top of the range I was... more

We spent a very pleasant Friday evening at the George. We booked a roadside room and we were not troubled by the road noise although we did not have the window open. The room was very clean and nicely fitted out. The afternoon tea was as good as ever. We ate in the Garden room in the evening - the... more

As ever not trusting on-line reservations I contacted the hotel directly and whilst I was told they did not have any suites physically nor available, and as my stipulation was NOT a four-poster bed, a reservation was made. All good so far, after a pleasant journey along from the M42, A14. A43. we arrive to a four poster (small) bed... more

Stayed on company business. Disappointed to have to carry suitcase up 2 flights of stairs not good in high heels!! Room modernly decorated and bed very comfortable with good quality linens, although I do not like rooms that only offer showers, (as luxurious as they may be) and yes I had one that was lacking one so again disappointed. Room... more
