We stayed here for four nights and found the hotel to be beautifully quaint on the outside and centrally situated to what we needed to do in beautiful Stamford. We did, however, find the rooms to be very small (we were in no 6) and dated. The shower is not the best, either as only an average trickle if water... More

My sister and I visited Stamford for a very short stay. Before arriving, we had researched possible places to eat and this was high on our list. A sharp shower of rain made our mind up for us, and I feel very fortunate to have been guided here by the weather. Our visit was excellent from start to finish.Professional, efficient... More

This hotel is desperately in need of a full renovation. Rooms are tiny and cluttered with giant, outdated and frankly, dirty furniture (the mirror on the dressing table clearly given a cursory wipe with a dirty rag making it even harder to see into). The bathrooms need a full refit - a working shower would have been handy. The breakfast... More

We visit the candlesticks every couple of months the service and the food never disappoints, where else would you a three corse meal served by silver service trained staff at such a good price, here's to another 15 years!

I suggested this hotel to my mother-in-law and her friend for a recent visit to my home town of Stamford. They requested a twin room and stayed for three nights. It was only upon badgering them to tell me (I guess they were loathe to as I'd suggested the hotel) that I found out the room was up a winding... More

Our first visit to Candlesticks was in 2009 and we have cheerfully returned at least once - sometimes twice - a year since. This April's visit showed no falling in the high standards set at this small Hotel with very high standards. The service was, as usual, excellent and the food in its candlelit Restaurant, again as usual, exemplary. The... More

Chintzy and jaded in appearance but clean and good location. We did not eat in the restaurant so cannot comment but the rooms were small and we were cold. I agree with a previous reviewer who said that for £70 a night I would expect a cooked breakfast. On this occasion to make our own toast in the room, suited... More

Have just had a Sunday lunch family reunion for ten people. We were made very welcome, the meal was excellent, nicely cooked, lots of fresh vegetables and well served. After lunch we were given the opportunity for more time together in the bar and the exchange of Christmas presents. Would certainly recommend

Stayed overnight at Candlesticks for a friend's Birthday Dinner - all I can say is WOW! Great location and very near to the station. The room was on the small side, but I would expect that for £50 a night!! And with so much to do and see in Stamford, I only SLEPT in my bedroom. Friends and I celebrated... More
