We stayed a Saturday night for a wedding reception. On check in at 7pm we had to shout through the steel shutters that had been lowered on the reception desk to the man eating a sandwich in the little room adjoining the reception. He quickly raised the shutters and checked us in, not that pleased to see us and he... more

so many promises. staff very slow seemed to wear whatever they wanted, no ice for over hour as they said there was none. No decent whisky behind the bar! Odd cutlery in funtion room had to ask continually for things that as a hotel should have provided Needs a trained manager to manage and train these staff, and perhaps then... more

A strange little hotel/bar with rooms. I had a triple room (solo traveller) which was recently decorated and looked modern, bed was very comfy. The bathroom was modern and clean, I noted that the bathroom had a round window, and a square blind which didn't quite cover the hole window. There was also a roof beam across the bath covered... more

Wasnt expecting much because of the negative reviews but was really suprised at the standards througout the bar, restaurant and sleeping accomodation. Good value for money and a really freindly staff team. Thumbs up! more

The rooms were supposed to have had an extensive refurb. This meant having a flat screen TV fitted and green woodchip painted wallpaper. The toilet had more skid marks than the Ark Royal landing deck and the room temperature reached 100% during the night. There is no climate control and the windows at the front of the hotel are screwed... more

We stopped here along with 3 other friends in June 2007, bar area was nice, friendly check in...and thats where the pleasant stuff stopped!! Myself and my huband got given a room on the top floor, which is up quite a few steep stairs (no lift) and the corridors were dirty, full of ciggy ends. Massive gap under the bedroom... more

Booked this hotel to attend a wedding and then checked trip advisor - was horrified at the comments and nearly cancelled the room. Glad I didn't as the hotel is nothing like the reviews posted last year. We stayed in room 112, it was large and beautifully decorated with a good sized en-suite and all the bathroom fittings were new.... more

Have just returned home, early, from a two night stay at the Royal. Should be called Faulty Towers with Noise! Checked into this building site and the first thing that hit me was the smell of urine. However found the rooms very nice but small. Although temperature was only around 60 degrees outside, room temperature was around 100 degrees. Hot... more

Just arrived back from a stay at this hotel and I had a lovely time. Check in and out went very smoothly. Four poster suite was perfect for husband and I, although if you are a light sleeper you will not get to sleep for the party going on in bar downstairs. You could always join in though as atmosphere... more
