Chintzy overpriced stuffy hotel. Stayed there due to a recent visit to Taunton. Found service far short of what I expect from a four star hotel. Also nothing is complimentary including newspapers! Very chintzy and 1990s decor. Nothing modern. The only redeeming feature is the english breakfast which is above average. One to avoid more

The hotel facilities are good but the restaurant and bar are very disappointing. The bar seems to have been modernised but lacks charm and atmosphere. In the restaurant one is totally in the hand of staff whose English is very limited. There was no supervision by more experienced staff. It seems that they like to seat people closely together even when the... more

I stayed one night on business. The Hotel is in the centre of Taunton and easily accessible by taxi from the train station. The reception area is small but welcoming and the staff were very accommodating, advising me on the best time to book a taxi for my morning appointment. and carrying my back up to the room. The room... more

Well, where to start.... Firstly the room. We paid a discounted last minute rate of £125 b&b and at that price it was just about ok. The rack rate is £235 and if I had paid that this review would be a lot more critical. This is supposedly a top notch hotel and you'd expect decent toiletries, slippers, robes, decent... more

Having been bought up and raised in Taunton, the thought that comes to mind when thinking of The Castle is of , quality and sevice, of which it lacks both. We have stayed in the castle many times and vowed each time was its last chance. Our last stay was in October 2008, we were in town to celebrate my... more

Lovely, romantic hotel. It might not suit those who want cutting edge contemporary style but I doubt if that's really why many people visit Somerset. The Castle is is comfortable, full of character and our room / suite had lots of space, window seats, dressing room, excellent cookies and plenty of comfy corners. Good bathroom - not a marble palace... more

I have just returned from a one night stay in this excellent hotel. Taking advantage of a Sunday discount I paid £99 for a double room. Room was very confortable - old fashioned, yes, but an excellent antitode to the hermetically sealed modern box. The hotel is very like the excellent Paradors in Spain - keeping much of the ambience... more

My Husband and I stayed here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We had also booked a meal in the restaurant too. Our first impressions were fantastic as we drove into the car park. It is a beautiful building and immediately someone came to help us with our bags. We booked in easily and went to our room, which was nice... more

For what I paid to stay at the Castle I was very disappointed, it was far too expensive, I just expected more somehow, I have stayed in much nicer hotels throughout Europe for half the money and had a far nicer experience. more

We booked via Booking.com and got a great a deal - £125 for a Saturday night, we booked 2 days before going. Hotel is easy to find, I admit I felt a bit worried when we had 0.5 miles to go and we were in the middle of a town centre but you go round the corner and there is... more
