I have just returned from a one night stay in this excellent hotel. Taking advantage of a Sunday discount I paid £99 for a double room. Room was very confortable - old fashioned, yes, but an excellent antitode to the hermetically sealed modern box. The hotel is very like the excellent Paradors in Spain - keeping much of the ambience... more

My Husband and I stayed here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We had also booked a meal in the restaurant too. Our first impressions were fantastic as we drove into the car park. It is a beautiful building and immediately someone came to help us with our bags. We booked in easily and went to our room, which was nice... more

For what I paid to stay at the Castle I was very disappointed, it was far too expensive, I just expected more somehow, I have stayed in much nicer hotels throughout Europe for half the money and had a far nicer experience. more

We booked via Booking.com and got a great a deal - £125 for a Saturday night, we booked 2 days before going. Hotel is easy to find, I admit I felt a bit worried when we had 0.5 miles to go and we were in the middle of a town centre but you go round the corner and there is... more

We have stayed at the Castle before, and it's like coming home to your Grandmother's. It's warm and inviting with good food, but it's a bit stuffy and worn around the edges. It's expensive, but it's better than the alternatives and the location is wonderful. We arrived for a one night stay to find that we had been upgraded to... more

My wife and I chose to stay for a night at the Castle hotel to celebrate our first wedding anniversary and we were not disappointed. Our twin room was at the back of the main building and was fine: nicely decorated, clean and with comfy beds. We took afternoon tea in the lovely garden at the side/back of the hotel... more

We stayed on a Sunday night when the main restaurant was closed. The internet room rate booked well in advance was excellent value and included breakfast. Reception was polite and efficient although the hotel had no knowledge of my email request for a quiet room and reserved car parking sent earlier in the day. Our room was clean, well decorated... more

The hotel itself is fine, though expensive for what it is. Make sure you get a room in the main block rather than the rooms at the back, which really could be from any hotel. The big disappointment is the restaurant. I’m lucky to eat at some of the best restaurants through work in the UK and Europe, but as... more

The Castle is built out of the remains of an old English Castle with a location right in centre of Taunton. This is a great location as a base for exploring, walking or biking in the nearby Quantock Hills. The place has a 'traditional' English country town hotel feel, with comfortable Public areas and attentive staff. We arrived early Saturday... more

The first room they showed us to was at the back of the building, overlooking the high street (very noisy). The decoration was horrendous...shockingly blue walls and would have driven one insane in a very short amount of time. It was so hot and stuffy (it wasn't a warm day) that we only managed to stay in the room for... more
