This hotel is like stepping back into the 70's. Wery old fashioned style. Mould on walls! Taking a shower was almost impossible, at water could only be adjusted to ice-cold og boiling hot. Only one available plug in entire room. Internet access wasn't working - reception couldn't do anything. Simply not up to the standard You would expect 2012

Couple of pointers about this place. It feels different to your average hotel - as you might imagine being an ex-officers mess it's a bit 'institutional' - so be prepared for that. I actually quite liked the rich history surrounding the hotel - there's a memorial outside and the corridors are lined with pictures of vintage aircraft.
It's extremely convenient...

This former Officer's Mess has been superbly refurbished and is a three star luxury hotel, and our room was dual aspect, large and with too many extras to mention them all! The hotel has some very interesting and poignant history attached to it. We stayed Friday to Monday with a coach tour and it was incredibly quiet until Monday morning,...

For the past 4 days my friend and I stayed at The George. We knew it was a three star but hygiene is a must.
As soon as we walked in it smelled musty like a mueseum. We went up to our room and found dirty towels in our bathroom. We requested clean ones and were promptly brought up. There...

This is an Ex Officers Mess with reasonable rooms.
It is quiet and clean.
The bar food is good and at a fair price. Scampi and chips with Good (not over cooked) fresh peas always a winner in my book.
Staff are friendly and nothing is to much trouble.
Down side is the place needs a make over rooms are...

Stayed here on coach trip, very quiet , good food very friendly staff, new posh decor with thick carpets even !!! Just a little isolated no shops but if your flying in or out highly recommended better than a chain hotel with some nice little extras

Stayed one night on way back from a hiking trip-Good reception lady at night-arrived quite late, after 9:30-room was quiet and decent, rather old style-big bath-no AC, but a fan was provided (this was a hot summer in the UK) and that helped. No airport noise.
Breakfast was odd-no one sugguesting where to sit or how the buffet operates. Someone...

Staff are very friendly and really helpful, people who have slated this hotel obviously have champagne tates but only want to spend lemonade money. Rooms were very comfortable, hotel was quiet and breakfast was however you wanted it. Would definitely stay again

We were flying from Durham Tees Valley airport and simply could not have booked in a hotel in a better location. Price for B&B allowed us to leave our car at the hotel for the week and a quick walk through the car park got us to the airport in jig-time.
The hotel is fine - a bit dated -...
