Upon arrival, the receptionist took my payment and then as we were beginning to walk up the stairs she stopped us to make a point of "no parties or additional guests", which we both found rather strange! By which she meant that she anticipated that we might be wanting to invite a house of guests round to our hotel room... More

Stayed at the gate hotel for two nights whilst my daughter was in hospital. Place is dated and needs redecorating. However.room was clean and the bed was comfy. First night I.was.freezing cold but was told.this was because the radiator wasn't switched on. Probably should have checked it very late arrival and just fell into bed. Maybe the room should be... Hmm. I had the "dial 200" treatment at reception and found it a bit quirky, but to be fair the room was ok, the tv and kettle and ensuite facilities worked, (shame the free wifi didn't though). I was surprised there was no restaurant for an evening meal onsite, but fortunately it's only a short walk to the old town.... More

The hotel is very closed to station. and also very closed to the town centre. Staff very pleasant and helpful. The room was very clean and everything worked fine. The breakfast was very good with lots of choice. There was a cooked breakfast too which my girlfriend really loved. Would recommend this hotel to stay and look forward to come... More

Hotel Central , clean, great breakfast , staff attentive and polite. Certainly recommended . Value for money very good . Customer care both before and after the stay. If I come back to Stevenage I choose it again .

Where to start from.... I was staying at this hotel for 3 nights and I wouldn't recommend it at all!!! Hotel is situated in Stevenage center, next to Old town with big sign Hotel & Restaurant, however.... restaurant was closed. When I've arrived I went to the reception as usual to find a note, please dial 200. I've rang and... More

Very strange hotel! on arrival you have to dial 200 at the reception as there is no one there to great you? after some time a very nice lady arrives and takes you to your room. the room was nice but, there were no drinks in the fridge , the bathroom only had toilet paper and hand wash. The bed... More

Home from home. I stayed at the Gate Hotel for 2 nights. The hotel is 5 minute walk from Stevenage train station and a 2 minutes walk to the high street, which has a great selection of restaurants. I found the Gate Hotel very easy to find situated in a very quite street. When I arrived at the hotel. I... More

What a dreadful place. The rooms are small with wafer thin walls - you can here the people in the next room using the toilet. The rooms were dusty. The staff were far from helpful and were indeed rather rude. We had agreed the price, over the telephone, for the room a few days before we left home. When we... More

Great location and lovely room but rather weird otherwise! We visited Stevanage for the day and decided to stay over ... I called the hotel about 10 times and each time, after a lengthy amount of rings, it cuts through to voice-mail notifying me they are serving other guests, so decided to pop in in person ...no-one to be found...
