This hotel was tatty needs shutting down and re done up, bed room was very tatty it was like hotel out of the 50's. The bedding on the beds was old fashioned. I would not stay here again and would not recommend it. the breakfast was ok, but not good. If I was a hotel inspector I would be horrified.

I didn't believe hotels like this still existed. On arrival a staff member came to our car and helped with our luggage. We were asked to pay up front and after seeing our room I could see why. It was dismal, large and unpleasant. The curtains didn't fit and were only for decoration. The flat screen TV was so small... More

We can normally spot these guests in the first few seconds, I am delighted that this was no exception, pay in advance, I cant think of a single hotel that doesn't take some sort of security to ensure payment, no we don't have a car park , we were here before cars, silly old Victorians not having the foresight to... Well, where to start! Whilst we accept that the renovations to the hotel are a work in progress that in no way explains our stay there. We booked for 2 nights (we got it dirt cheap) for our 35th wedding anniversary which worked out at around £16.50 pppn. It's the old saying....you buy cheap you get cheap! The room was... More

We are what we are a no frills 2 star hotel charging very modest rates not sure what you could expect for £16.50 we are converting all our rooms to fully en-suite but it doesn't happen overnight. We offer en-suite accommodation from as little as £25 a head including a very full breakfast menu, don't feel obliged to write a... More

I stayed here for a few nights recently and having read most of the reviews I find my self bemused by the negative comments. Reviewers should have taken the time to talk to John Humberstone the owner about their concerns and listened to the history behind the hotel and his plans claim it back from the brink. So this is... You normally have to look for the real reason when confronted with one you don't believe, in sales its called hunting out the real objection, no breakfast is ever served cold, it just cant happen, the plaes are normally so hot you have trouble carrying them and advise the guest to beware, on the day this person left her breakfast... We stayed in a triple room. It was very large, clean and comfortable. Great location, not right on the seafront but only just back from it. We even had a sea view from one of the side windows. It's not the Ritz, but we didn't expect it to be for the price. We had a lovely cooked breakfast included, which... More

the room was clean and comfortable, and that is unfortunately where the positive feedback ends. The decor was awful, with thread bare carpets throughout the communal areas which seemed to change in pattern as you ascended each floor. The floor tiles in the bathroom were not secured, if someone elsewhere in the building was using the shower you couldn't, unless... More

At no time did we get any comments or complaints about this stay, the showers work fine and are clean, how anyone can detect someone else affecting their shower is a new one on me, we saw some of the party for breakfast who ate everything, two left rather quickly we guess it may have been the author of this report... I am astonished, the first time I have ever had anyone complain about a staff member, well if its any consolation she is leaving, but I am still astonished, as I am with the allegations about cold or greasy food, its just not us, likewise with comments relating to refurbishing furniture, a dressing table newly delivered was left overnight in... Ok I will try to objective, with what I consider a trivial and over dramatised review, firstly stairs to reception' I started my hotel career at The Grosvenor House Hotel in Sheffield, the reception was on the second floor, apposite was the dining room, no different to here, paying as you arrive is nothing new, most hotels do this or...
