We have stayed extensively with Shearings at various locations including this one on several previous occasions with varying degrees of satisfaction and (with one or two unfortunate exceptions at other locations) have generally got what we've paid for; and really if you want the 4 or 5 star trappings ... then go somewhere else and pay the proper money. We... more

We went for a 5 day trip this hotel with Shearings in August. On arrival we were allocated room 427 on the 4th floor - what a disappointment. No way was this a room for a couple to a 3 star standard. I would have rather slept in the reception area than used this room. Dirty carpet, dirty walls, wallpaper... more

This hotel has a prime position on the sea front and COULD be wonderful. However, my experience was not. It is tired and like a 50s or 60s boarding house. The room allocated was dated to say the least. The wallpaper was coming off the wall, the carpet dirty and stained and the bathroom sink glaze cracked and the surround... more

We booked a 4 Day weekend break from Yorkshire, and we had a really good weekend. The rooms do need refurbishing but are spotless,we had great heating and very hot water in our single rooms. It would cost hundeds of thousands of pounds to renovate the whole hotel, and as we only paid £69.00 for the 4 day trip i can't... more

As the previous review indicated this hotel is in need of refurbishment but it is gradually getting done. I stayed for £99 for 3 nights half board as a single occupant of a double room. Yes the room could do with a paint job, but the room was clean and the bed comfortable. The food was more than adequate and... more

Hotel has good location, opposite gardens and sea front - also has the bonus of own car park - a definite plus in Eastbourne. Room we were initally allocated - 3rd floor, with a lovely view of the fire escape at the back, was dreadful. So depressing- decor awful, fittings old & awful, scuff & coffee marks on the walls... more
