My wife and I stayed for 2 nights. Great location and very unusual atmosphere with friendly staff. We had a very comfortable room on the 2nd.floor nice size with a good bathroom. The breakfast was more than adequate.

We only stayed one night and wished we could have stayed longer. Yes, the room we had was very small (although the bathroom was quite large), and yes it was in the "attic" on the 4th floor, but we loved it. So quaint! Everything was well kept in the room - no "historic" shabbiness - very nice decor. The heat... More

Located in a building that must be 300 years old, the hotel is adjacent to the old port waterfront of Bergen. The hotel's entrance is not very visible but it adjoins the Hanseatic Museum and that is quite prominent. The floor of our listed to port, just like the decks of the ships that plied the ports of the Hanseatic League.... The hotel is an historic site and it was renovated using strict guidelines. Rooms are rustic looking and are scattered to accommodate the guidelines. Our room, although small, was more than adequate and refreshingly simple but tastefully decorated. The bathroom was large with the shower and sink separate from the toilet. Lots of amenities in the bathroom. We didn't have... More

Bergen is a great place and worth a visit in Norway. Large rooms. Breakfast was amazing and the staff were so helpful, only disappointment was the unexpected fire drill at 3am with no explanation. Extremely comfortable beds, but quite noisy at night-ear plugs provided.

Being picky travellers we have chose this hotel as family owned place. Bergen is great place with unique nature. Therefore expectations for this hotel were higher than cheaper neighbours from the chain hotels. Advertising and relatively high evaluation in some sites made our choice real. Never less, we were disappointed for this expensive stay. After arriving, when we received Top... More

We have stayed in this hotel during our trip through Scandinavia. It was a very nice experience, loved the style and that the rooms were decorated with wood. Bathrooms spacious, modern and clean. Breakfast buffet very tasty and a lot of things to choose from, tasty coffee. Location is also very good for sightseeing in Bergen.

This is the first hotel I ever visited that provided ear plugs on my bedside table. Not a good sign! We had two rooms overlooking the Finnegårdsgaten, just above the entrance of the hotel. A large number of rooms are on this side of the hotel. I am afraid I can not recommend these rooms. During our summer stay, the... More

Having read Trip Adviser reviews, Norwegian husband and I were pleased to have secured a suite for two nights. We stayed 30 minutes; if you do not count the time we waited in reception empty of guests, staff, or way for calling for help. Receptionist unwelcoming. Building undoubtedly historic, and possibly well furnished and decorated. The suite smelt, the air... More

Boutique hotel located next to the harbour and fish market. Lovely spacious bathroom with stand alone bath and separate shower cubicle, bedroom individually decorated. Tea and coffee in the room. Restaurant had been decorated in a really interesting style with railway sleepers for the walls and lots of dark and sumptuous fabrics. Breakfast was very good with both hot and... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A stay at the Hanseatic Hotel is a very special experience. We have invested all our expertise and passion into creating this high quality hotel, situated at Bryggen in Bergen. With its location at the very heart of historic Bergen, the hotel is ideally placed, whether you are travelling on business or pleasure. The Hanseatic Hotel is not your 'standard' hotel. The hotel has been built on historic ground within the Finnegaarden Trading House at Bryggen, which is inscribed on Unesco's list of World Heritage Sites. We have retained the wharf style and architecture, and the old timber walls have been preserved in several places.Every room is uniqe! We can offer 37 characterful double rooms featuring exclusive furniture and unique bathrooms, creating an interior that is redolent of the time when Bryggen was a Hanseatic port. The Hanseatic Hotel will appeal to those looking for more than a standard A4 hotel, and who wish to spoil themselves in attractive and charming surroundings. As the city's most outstanding hotel and restaurant complex, we want our guests' stay to be memorable and can offer delicious culinary treats that will appeal to every taste. We have several restaurants serving exquisite traditional and international cuisine, a cosy lobby bar, in addition to excellent conference facilities and free WiFi.Our hotel and restaurants, as well as our conference facilities, with their unique character and central location, make for an out-of-the-ordinary experience. We can organise every type of privatefunction, from weddings to confirmations and Christmas buffets. A short distance from the hotel is the famous Fish Market (Fisketorget), where seafood connoisseurs mingle. Another popular tourist attraction is the Fløibanen Funicular. The airport bus and the railway station are just a short distance away.Welcome to a memorable hotel and culinary experience! ... more   less
