There's no receptionist around in Winter after 3pm, so if you arrive after make sure you know the check in procedure. The instructions were very clear so that was not a problem for me even though I got in at 12am. The only problem was, I was in a shared room (my first time), and a strange old drunk man... More

2nd Hostel stay of life and I must admit it was good. Positives - Cheapest accommodation in Bergen(I lived in a 4bed Dorm @ 500NOK for 2 nights), you can further go cheap if you decide to take 12 person dorm. - Location is super-Floyenbahn, Bryggen and tourist info centre all 5mins walk - Lot of resturants in the vicinity... I will preface this review by admitting that this was the first hostel I have ever stayed in, so perhaps my expectations were lofty. I rented a bed in one of the dormitories for several nights. I'll start with the positives. First, it's centrally located in the heart of the city center and within short walking distance to Bryggen and... More

As a hostel it is generally very good. The location is excellent being close to the fish market and the railway up the mountain. The facilities were good... The kitchen has all that you need and the bunk beds were fine. The pillows were awful though. The key cards didn't work half the time which meant getting into the room... More

Expensive for what u get (but so is all of Norway) but the cheapest option around. The good: The location was great, the cleanliness was good, most of the staff were nice and helpful. The bad: Not enough bathrooms, small kitchen, No reception after 9, and ALL the computers weren't working. I stayed one night in the dorm and in... More

The location of this hostel was great - just round the corner from Bryggen so near all the sights of the town. I stayed in a twelve or fourteen bed dorm, which was full but everyone was quiet even in the morning when they were leaving. We did have one girl sleeping on our floor because someone was in her... I've stayed in a number of hostels around the world and the YMCA Bergen hostel was NOT a good one. From the majority of the receptionists being rather rude and abrupt, to the really poor communal areas. There are NO computers available that work as they are all broken?! The communal kitchen for a hostel with approx 150 beds is... More

During my recent trip to Norway, I stayed in 3 hostels in 3 different cities (Oslo, Bergen, and Stavanger). The Bergen YMCA was my favorite for many reasons - the location was perfect, the amenities were top notch (kitchen, lounge, dining room, luggage storage), the staff was great, and the rooms were great. I stayed in a 6-bed dorm and... More

My wife and I stayed in a 4 bed room. The room was clean and comfortable and had a bathroom as well as a kitchenette and fridge where we could store food and prepare tea. We were lucky to have roommates who were actually very nice The bathroom was large enough and fully functional. The full kitchen is a little... More

The receptionist was rude and cold. We booked two consecutive nights on separate bookings and she wouldn't allow us to stay in the same room (though we've emailed the hostel to tell our situation, which she adamantly denied). Kitchen was a cesspool of filth. Male showers are shared without any cubicle. If you don't mind rubbing soap over yourself naked... More
