Perfect location in the middle of the city, not far from the wonderful Bryggen. It's not easy to find a good hostel in Bergen because the offer is quite limited. But the Bergen YMCA is perhaps the best.

We found everything we needed in the kitchen to prepare a nice good meal. The staff was friendly and helpful What was a bit of a pain, was the big shared sleeping hall, with many people staying there. One night a big group decided to start their hicking trip quite early (4 in the morning) and woke up more or... More

We stayed at the hostel for one night, as written in reviews above, people at reception are rather cold and the night guard was definitely unfriendly. One thing that really surprised us was that alcohol is forbidden at the hostel- you can't drink in common areas, neither your room and we coudn't find any information about this at their webpage.... We only stayed one night at the hostel. As we were supposed to arrive really late, the day before our arrival we picked up the "key" because there's no one that the reception after midnight. We stayed in a 6-bedded dorm with private WC, a sink, tableware, mugs so you can have some breakfast in your room as breakfast is... More

To be fair, we ended up going from a dorm room to a private room. But meh. The common area, kitchen, wifi, cleanliness, terrace and location were outstanding. Cannot complain about any of that. Our only grievance was the price. (And the noise of the other guests.) After a long trip on the Bergen railway and a very rainy evening... More

After a tiring journey we arrived around mid night for checkin, entrance was easy with keycode box, welcome envelope waiting with our name with all the info we need. We stayed in 4 bed room, room was clean and big enoughf to accommodate 4 members with an attached toilet. Bed quality was good. In house break fast was basic but... More

It's cheap and clean. Less than 5 minutes from the fish market. Free coffee and tea and lots of free food (left by others) in the kitchen. Sometimes the spoons and forks are all taken by the people then we had to use other utensils to eat.

I'm currently writing this review from an inexpensive hostel in Stockholm, but this hostel is Amazing. Wish I could say the same about YMCA...We left Bergen earlier this week and though the location of the hostel was great I was unimpressed. Norway is expensive, so you'd hope that when you're staying at a hostel you'd at least get your money's... More

A nice cozy place with all the amenities for enjoying a trip with bunch of friends . very centrally located, all major points within a range of 500mts. You will find lots of travellers from different nation, the common room and kitchen gives you a nice environment to interact with them.

Just admit it, stuffs are expensive in Norway. Therefore, it does not take a genius to realize that accomodation does not come cheap in Norway with price of minimum 25 euro per night. Bergen YMCA Hostel offers something more on the minimum side and they offer minimum service as if saying "Yeah, you paid this much so you deserve it"... More
