After staying in a really great hotel in Oslo, the Strand was a bit of a come down. That being said, I had no problems with it- it was a basic, no-frills place, and since everything is so expensive in Norway (especially Bergen), I'd probably stay there again. The desk staff was friendly, helpful and polite. The breakfast was great!... more

The Strand Hotel offers an excellent location. It is located at the harbourside with easy access to the open market, museums, restaurants, tourist information office, the funicular to Mt. Floyen, and other popular attractions. If location is the most important matter when choosing your accomodation, then the Strand Hotel may be just perfect. In addition to its convenient location, the... more

Lying right behind the fishmarket, the hotel boasts the best views in central Bergen. Sure enough the location couldn`t be more central, bu that`s the best thing which be said about the place. A superior room still had a shower with one of those smelly shower curtains, and no hairdrier. Service at the reception was slow - had to wait... more

Stayed here after coastal voyage. The hotel was welcoming and the receptionist exceptionally helpful. Had a lovely room on the 5th. floor overlooking the Harbour. It was a Friday night and rather noisy, but the view compensated. Breakfast was so-so for Scandinavia. Would stay there again, but probably not at a weekend or public holiday. Overall, a good experience. more

We stayed at the Strand hotel either side of a Hurtigruten cruise in December 2006, we were impressed by how friendly the staff were, especially when we checked in at about 3am due to ferry delays! The staff also helped us to plan our free days and even loaned us an umbrella when the heavens opened! The rooms we stayed... more

After hearing rave reviews from others who stay in Bergen frequently, I decided to book a double room at the Strand. The location is excellent, and in the very hear of the city right across from the fish market. Our room had also just been refurbished, so it was very clean, and very comfortable...in short, very new. However, it was... more

Absolutely the best thing about this hotel is its location, both for sightseeing and for arrival and departure. (We arrived by ferry from Balestrand and left on the airport bus - both involved a walk of only a minute or so.) This also means a stunning view - so long as you are at the front - across to Bryggen,... more

Stopped here for three nights before and one night after Hurtigruten. Location is convenient, staff helpful, breakfast good (free tea and coffee all day). Pleasant little roof terrace. Building is old and rooms without air conditioning. Heating is ancient. Choice between stuffy room with window shut and traffic (and reveller) noise with it open - suspect this could be a... more

Stayed here for one night. great situation right on the Harbour front. Room charming, very large and spotless.Breakfast was excellent, breads were particularly nice.Best of all were the very helpful reception staff who made every effort to meet our needs and requests. Only slight problem was noise from bar/disco however this did not go on very late. I would recommend... more

Stayed here after the round trip hurtigruten. Hotel located right by the harbour, facing Bryggen. Rooms a little old-fashioned but spotlessly clean and comfortable. Reception staff very helpful and breakfast available early for us as we had to leave before 7am. All in, I'd recommend it for anyone looking for a reasonable hotel right in the centre of Bergen and... more
