We stayed at SAS Royal Bryggen for two nights. The location is great. The hotel is just next door to the famous old hanseatic merchant buildings and a walking distance from most other attractions in Bergen. The rooms are ok but they are getting a bit old. Time for a renovation. As common in Scandinavia the breakfast buffet has a... more
We made a last minute booking to do Norway in Nutshell in winter. We live in Norway, so are familiar with Norwegian costs and "hospitality". By most western standards Norway is low on the scale of service and friendliness, though of course when you get to know Norwegians they are great people, they just don't go out of their way... more
I work in Bergen, and have lived at hotels in Bergen for three years now. I have not been at all hotels, but try to find hotels that have a "miles-and-more" sort of program with the posiibility of abroad award stays. Therefore I have stayed in the following hotel chains: Scandic (formerly owned by Hilton) Thon Radisson Choice/Clarion/Comfort I stayed... more
We had called in the reservation to make sure that we would get a big, light room with a view. We were then told to book a businessroom and so we did. When we arrived we got a room at the upper floor (5) with no view, except to the office building 7 metres away and the room was in... more
This Hotel is right on Bryggen (sp) street very close to all of the tourist activities. The front desk was very nice. We were there the week between Christmas and New Year. Don't forget to go to the desk and get a towel if you plan to use the pool and the Solarium is 10 nok for 5 min or... more
A groiup of 50 people, traveling with a tour group, stayed here 2 nights before and one night after our Norwegian Coastal Voyage. The rooms were clean and comfortable, the staff very accommodating, even when I blew a fuse in the room, and the included breakfast buffet had anything we desired. The location, in the historic Bryggen section of the... more
Stayed here for 2 nights in 2003. Excellent front desk service...which gave us a very cheap upgrade to a junior suite! Great breakfast and supper....awesome location to see Bryggen and the rest of Bergen. Have spent a lot of time in Bergen, and this is the best hotel by far because of solid, friendly (and honest) service by staff, cleanliness,... more
Arrived for a 4 night stay in an Executive room. Welcome at reception was ok but hardly effusive. Given a room on the 4th floor with a view of the building opposite. Room was small and shabby. No robes and slippers as there were supposed to be, scuffed paintwork and generally depressing. When was brown last used to decorate hotel... more
Location is good just behind the old Bryggen quarters, although it also means that there are no sea view from the rooms. Otherwise a good hotel given that it was built in the 1980s; many facilities and a huge breakfeast. One disappointment, though; when we arrived at 10.30 pm, hungry after a long train journey from Oslo, there were no... more
