This place is absolutely wonderful. It is so quiet that you can hear your thoughts. Vesterålen must be one of the most, by humans, untouched areas in the world. We enjoyed every moment we spent here, in all 3 days and nights. The restaurant rum by Skagerkaia is excellent, serving freshly caught fish and a whale species that is sustainable.... More

We were so lucky that our Norwegian friends were able to share this amazing place to stay. The meals were so delicious they included local fish expertly cooked and superb service making us feel so welcome and nurtured. The bread, cakes and puddings were so delicious that I could have spent more than 2 days here - better to stay... More

this lovingly restored little guesthouse cum café/restaurant is a real treasure for travellers looking for a place calm and peaceful, right by the sea, but offering a lot of activities, too (beautiful mountain-hikes close by, boat for rent, fishing almost from your bedroom. sitting at the quay, overlooking the water, all the way from vesterålen til lofoten!, sleeping heavenly in... We spent a wonderful week in Skagakaia cycling, trekking, whale-watching, boating, island-hopping and fishing, and all of that can be achieved from the magical base of Skagakaia. We had a fantastic en-suite bedroom overlooking the bay (visited by the Queen of Norway, no less, two days earlier). The rooms are comfortable and you find peace and tranquillity as you watch... We stayed at Skagakaia for a week and are very happy to have found this place on Vesterålen. Lone Lamark makes a significant effort to let you experience a warm and friendly place by keepig the charme of the old days when the main building was home to the shipping masters of Bø - her ancestors. All rooms reside in... More

Skagakaia is all you could wish for if you are of the romantic kind! We loved our four day stay in a pretty room with a stunning view of the Lofoten and the old steamboat harbour. We saw a seal and two harbour porpoises from our window, only meters away! The beautiful white wooden main house is restored in a... More

The old (100y+) coastal ship servicebuilding is marvelously situated to enjoy the view and the sites on the very western tip of Vesterålen. You can choose rooms from the size of your wallet or backpack, but will smile in every one of them. The food though, is a reason of it´s own to take the trip.! I kayaked there and... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Authentic, charming and good quality guesthouse in the beautiful archipelago of the Lofoten & Vesteralen Isles in North Norway. At Skagakaia you live straight at the quai, in a traditional old dock house or "rorbu". Here at the quay, you can relax in a deck chair to the most beautiful ocean view, or maybe start your day with a refreshing morning dive or by testing your fishing luck right from your doorstep. Known for its good atmosphere and excellent food, - traditional and local - the restaurant at Skagakaia have both local and house guests. Sometimes we invite to small concerts, and some of the best moments have been when our gusts spontaneously have brought their violin or borrowed our guitar. The local surroundings offers many beautiful hiking routes. We have bicycles for hire and our rowing boats are free to use for our guests. As hostess at Skagakaia I am happy to share my grandparents' place with you, and maybe to show you around and tell you about all the nice places and things to do. We have no TV, but WIFI is free. ... more   less
