I needed a hotel in Vienna that was inexpensive yet close to the center and found an excellent one in Hotel Korotan. This is a hotel with some Slovenian influence and it is very comfortable. The most notable aspect of it is the friendly staff. Everyone I interacted with was helpful and had a smile on their face. The rooms... More

Combination of hotel and student dormitory in nice area with wery reasonable price. Breakfast is excellent and rich, hotel itself is silent and no one is disturbing your rest. Rooms are moderate but clean and with enough space.

Very good situated in the quiet district of Josefstadt (8th district) in Vienna. Clean rooms and comfortable beds. Very good breakfast buffet. Superb staff in the reception. Close both to the subway and the tram.

It was a pleasure to stay in this hotel for a weekend. It's located in one of the best area's in Vienna, just a few minutes walk from Rathaus. The atmosphere (furniture, keys, doors, etc) in the room reminds you 80th's of the XX century. You can probably dream that you are listened by special services. But in the meantime... More

Rich breakfast buffet, but almost the same food supply every day, we were staying only 3 days, so no problem for us. Nr. 202 has a window to the street and its above the entry into the hotel, so sometimes we have heard people from the hotel talking before the hotel. There is a pizzeria opposite to the hotel, but... Stayed 4 nights & the staff were very polite & helpful. We had rooms 302, 303 & 306 which were basic & cleaned everyday. Breakfast finished a bit early at 9am but the Café Hummel is 2 minutes walk away if you prefer something a bit later. Close to the Rathaus (which until early March has the Eisdaum icerink) and... The hotel is near to my business place,it is so quiet, clean, organized, the staff are cooperative and their english language is fluent and this is rare here ,the hotel is near to many touristically important places which I visited by walking although there are many transportation facilities around the hotel but I didn't need to use it.

For the last few years (8 in fact) we stayed at various times at Hotel Korotan. The location is what does it for us - just a few minutes walk to the main CBD tram line. The place is known to Slovene students who studied at Vienna as their home away from home since 1676. The place today is istill... More

Staying in Josefstadt

Neighborhood Profile
Josefstadt
The eighth district is an older generation’s Vienna at its finest: and this is what makes it popular with locals of all ages. Josefstadt has theater, small independent shops, romantic passageways, neighborhood cafés with regular clientele, church squares, town palaces and shady communal gardens. Trendy hangouts have conquered distinctive places such as the Old General Hospital (Altes AKH) and the vaults of overground U6. Theater in der Josefstadt on Josefstädter Strasse is the district’s cultural epicenter. Even if your German isn’t good enough to watch a play, you can marvel at the typical Biedermeier building and take a glimpse into the foyer. Lange Gasse houses an iconic local restaurant at its corner, as well as a legendary sweet shop and a bustling neighborhood market every Saturday. For small palace atmosphere and a different view on Vienna’s history, make your way to Schönborn garden palace (Palais Schönborn), which houses the Museum of Folk and Folk Art (Volkskundemuseum). Maria-Treu-Platz, with its summer outdoor cafés facing baroque church Maria Treu, and the historic passageway of Lerchenfelder Strasse 13 hide top spots for insiders.
