We stayed 4 nights at this boutique hotel in a Matteo Design room. The hotel had lots of funky artwork and we loved that the design rooms were in a separate corridor with a great red carpet. The room itself was modern, big windows, comfortable bed, the hard thing to get used to was no door to the bathroom, ok... More

A classy boutique style hotel that is both comfortable and just a little quirky. When we arrived at the front entrance I thought this doesn't look like the normal 'corporate' sleep factory, reserved by our local client. Situated on a quiet road in the old town, reception is up on the first floor, the lifts are small and slow. There... More

We stayed two nights in September and I enjoyed our stay. The service is excellent, the room is clean and quiet, and the locations is perfect for tourists. Don't expect an American-style luxury hotel (like a Ritz or Four Seasons). You won't find an impressive lobby, cocktail lounge, spacious rooms or an extensive room service menu. This is more like... We have never been in a hotel quite like this. The rooms are amazing, the service is outstanding, and the breakfast is magnificent. The owner not only sleeps there, he can be seen scurrying around helping clear the breakfast things. Talk about hands-on! And the location is perfect: close to the Museum Quarter, yet with easy subway access to all... More

Our family of four stayed here last month and had an amazing time. Beautiful, non-cookie-cutter place to stay in a lovely Art & Design neighborhood that's an easy walk to the museums and more. We had a fantastic suite, high ceilings, comfortable beds, sunlight and city views. It was filled with great artwork, books you really want to read, and... More

The Alstadt does many things very well. It is perfect for a weekend, but one could easily stay much longer the setting and sheer beauty of the hotel conspire to make it so good that one almost hopes to keep it to oneself... From the very genuine care that has been invested in making each room truely individual, always useing... More

We spent 3 nights at the Altstadt this week. The room was first rate - spacious, clean, modern, quiet and well furnished. The buffet breakfasts were superb and the complimentary afternoon tea and home made cake were very welcome. We enjoyed the various pieces of artwork but the most impressive aspect of the hotel was the staff. They were outstanding.... More

Firstly, I would like to congratulate the staff on their impeccable service, always smiling and very happy to help. The hotel itself was lovely, we decided on 2 of the 'Matteo Thun' rooms and loved their individuality, rain showers and decadent furnishings. Breakfast was extremely good, with a large selection and eggs to order, together with a nice glass of... More

Really can only echo some of the great reviews. I stayed here because of the Trip Advisor reviews and can rank the reasons 1) Wonderful, welcoming and cheerful staff no matter what the question asked 2) Good location- quiet street only 5 minute walk to the great museums and 10-15 minutes to the center of town 3) Quiet and comfortable... I have been travelling for almost 40 years and I have never stayed anywhere so friendly and efficient. Its in a great location, with some really whacky decor and amazingly friendly, helpful and courteous staff, a fabulous breakfast and also which is a real bonus, an afternoon tea too. All included in the price. I doubt whether there is anywhere... More
