At first glance, I didn't have a good feeling about this hostel. I thought it was fairly basic with a very 'hippie' atmosphere which I would have found unappealing. However, I was completely blown away after my first night. Firstly, the hostel is very well equipped. There isn't much nightlife in Vienna so its nice that the hostel has a... More

Stayed here for 4 nights in a 8 bed dorm and overall it was great The staff were very nice and helpful willing to help anytime The courtyard and lounge room were very welcoming and clean. The location is very convenient as it is 5min to metro and in between the city centre and the schonbrunn palace The only thing... More

Well located with easy access to downtown or out-of-town, the Hostel Ruthensteiner is a gem of a place with friendly and helpful staff, a variety of rooming options and a wide range of guests from young backpackers to mature couples and everything in between. The shared spaces are warm and inviting, with music and games and a nice bar, but... More

We went there for our honey week, and we stayed in an apartment, across the street. It was very quiet, clean and comfortable. The staff was very friendly and gave us maps and a lot of useful information. The garden is a very good place to know people and make new friends.

Stayed for 4 nights in this hostel and rate it very highly among the hostels I've stayed in. The garden is lovely, staff are really friendly and helpful, rooms very clean and the atmosphere is great among the travellers. The musical instruments (guitars, piano, drums) meant that every night people gathered to play which was great fun

The location considering the price is not great and the bathrooms are shared by a lot of guests. Nevertheless, the staff here are amazing. They let me make a call for 20 minutes without charging. Also, their recommendations proved to be very helpful.

Hi Leon, thanks for taking the time to review us - I'm glad to hear that our recommendations were helpful - and no worries about the phone calls, we always try to help out in a tight spot :). In defense of our LOCATION - there are no hostels in center city Vienna (the property values are too high for... More

Very nice and comfy hostel in Vienna. The staff is excellent. Very clean hostel! The rooms are a bit smaller than average. The hostel has a very nice and good equipped kitchen. The inner courtyard is superb! Especialley in the summer time.

Beyond the beautiful gardens, musical common areas, convenient kitchen, and computers or wifi for free usage, the outstanding staff is the reason Hostel Ruthensteiner was one of the best hostels I've ever visited. They are each friendly, very willing to give suggestions, and many are former backpackers themselves with fascinating stories and a fellow understanding of the highs and lows... More

Thought the hostel was great, staff were always very keen to help. Excellent common area, with a few instruments for people to play, and a bar that opened in the evening. Kitchen was good, had a BBQ and stuff outside to use which was great. Location was great, in between Schonnbrunn Palace and Stefansplatz really. Centre of town was only... More

Very clean, beautiful garden, great staffs, small size room, but very close and within walking distances to every interesting places in Vienna, try to get standing room for the opera- it's worth the wait and still have time to enjoy dinner and a stroll back to the hotel for the night, also it is very close to the train station.
