We stayed at the Urban Hotel Columbia (or Pension Columbia) for a city break. It was well located and easy to get to - about a 10 min walk from the Rathaus U-barn. It has been recently renovated and the room was light, airy and comfortable. The breakfasts were buffet style and were fantastic - meats, cheeses, cereals, eggs, toast,... More

This accomodation just feels like home. I arrived in the evening and had information sent about how to get in. The moment you enter the Columbia you feel like entering a huge city apartment of your own. Every corner displays tasteful details, the breakfast room and the meal is just gorgeous with home-made bread, cake and jam. The rooms are... More

Though a bit noisy from neighbour on first day (old building has limitations), it was still a good place to stay. Helpful staff, nice breakfast, clean. One thing to improve: replace burnt lightbulbs and detached curtain. Then, it would be prefect.

I stayed 7 nights at this hotel. The room was spacious, clean and freshly renovated. The location is not bad, you have to spend 7 mins by walking to the Rathaus. I did not have any problems with the Internet in my room. The breakfast was very good. There was only one small shortcoming - a very noisy fan in... More

We stayed 2 nights at Urban Stay Hotel Columbia. I had booked the B&B under the name Pension Columbia but I found out via email communication with the new owner that the name had in fact changed and that also there were several changes being done to the property. I have to say that we had a very good stay... More

The proprietors have just taken over recently and already they are doing a wonderful job. It has been freshly renovated. The things we consider most important: clean, good location, good hosts - all A+ Annasophia is a lovely owner, and the housekeeper is top notch as well. The room was spotlessly clean, they were helpful and prompt whenever we needed... More

Pension Columbia was a relaxing stay for us. We stayed for two nights. The neighborhood was quiet and the location is very convienent - not too far from public transportation, restaurants and grocery stores. The best part was the helpfulness of the staff. They went out of their way to help us find our way around the city, recommended things... More

Spent a week at the Pension Columbia and was very pleased - the location is ideal (close to transit, Ringstrasse, university, with easy access to the Innere Stadt and all that is there). This would be my first choice on my next visit to Vienna. Rooms are clean, and comfortable, with firm, comfortable beds. I had what was advertized as... More

We spent five nights here. Our first impression was not good. We used the S-bahn, the U-bahn and our feet to arrive at a poorly lighted entrance to a darkened building. We, however, were buzzed into the building by a person who told us an envelope had been left for us upstairs. We found a welcoming note and a key... More

Stayed 4 nights at this guest house. Good location close to the center of Vienna yet in a quiet neighborhood. Walking distance to the tram lines and a couple of subway stations, as well as the Innere Stadt. Staff were helpful, including organizing an early morning taxi pick-up to the airport. A simple breakfast spread was included as part of... More

Staying in Josefstadt

Neighborhood Profile
Josefstadt
The eighth district is an older generation’s Vienna at its finest: and this is what makes it popular with locals of all ages. Josefstadt has theater, small independent shops, romantic passageways, neighborhood cafés with regular clientele, church squares, town palaces and shady communal gardens. Trendy hangouts have conquered distinctive places such as the Old General Hospital (Altes AKH) and the vaults of overground U6. Theater in der Josefstadt on Josefstädter Strasse is the district’s cultural epicenter. Even if your German isn’t good enough to watch a play, you can marvel at the typical Biedermeier building and take a glimpse into the foyer. Lange Gasse houses an iconic local restaurant at its corner, as well as a legendary sweet shop and a bustling neighborhood market every Saturday. For small palace atmosphere and a different view on Vienna’s history, make your way to Schönborn garden palace (Palais Schönborn), which houses the Museum of Folk and Folk Art (Volkskundemuseum). Maria-Treu-Platz, with its summer outdoor cafés facing baroque church Maria Treu, and the historic passageway of Lerchenfelder Strasse 13 hide top spots for insiders.
