Lovely hotel in a really good location. If you like walking then you can walk to most places from here, thats what we did. Located up a small quite sreet so you would almost pass it by. Hotel is very clean and staff were lovely. We booked privileged rooms for a bit more comfort. Ours was a bit on the... More

We enjoyed our stay at Mercure, although we had to put-up with heat-wave temperatures. The air-condition was a blessing and the rooms were quite large. Very central for all our sightseeing We found the €18 each for breakfast rather high, but there are quit a lot of other options outside. The rooms were clean and the staff at the reception... More

We stayed for 4 nights in this hotel and overall, we enjoyed our time there (although to be fair we were out for the majority of the day). We stayed in an apartment. Positives about this hotel: Location is excellent- close enough to all the action but on a quiet street so we slept very well each night. Apartment was... More

It was easy to find and the air conditioning saved us in the extreme heat! I was disappointed with the room considering it was a 4 star but I was most annoyed at having to walk to the ironing room because there were no irons for the rooms. The staff were lovely and helped us with recommendations about the local... More

Chosen through Expedia, it seemed a decent place to stay although doubts about 4* remain still now. Nonetheless, an almost flawless experience: the (superior) double room was huge and quite clean, stylish bathroom, average furniture for the room that seemed to need renovating. Complimentary water everyday in the minibar too! Great staff at the reception, I was unlucky to be... More

Stayed here for a few days and can't fault the location, cleanliness or helpfulness of the staff. I was a bit surprised at the lack of tea making facilities but as it turned out it wasn't an issue as there is a well stocked shop around the corner. All in all I was very happy and would stay again.

We both thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Mercure Josefhof. Our room had an opulent theme to it with the touches of gold, browns and beiges not to mention the Klimt inspired glass bathroom door. I also loved the gold sink. The room was a bit neat but all the space you would need really. Air conditioning was a bonus... More

It is a very nice place to stay in Vienna, close to the city center and to all public transportation means. Museum quarter is within short walking distance, so are the Opera, St. Stephan Cathedral, Albertina Museum and so on. Shopping center is close to the hotel, too. Service is very good, the staff is nice, polite and helpfull and... More

The hotel is in an excellent location for visiting the museums. It is in a quiet location near good restaurants away from the tourist traps. The room was well appointed and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Very nice hotel!!! We booked it through Hotels.com. It is situated in very nice area in the city and our room is very cozy :) we paid very reasonable price and thought our room will not be anything special so it was a lovely surprise.

Staying in Josefstadt

Neighborhood Profile
Josefstadt
The eighth district is an older generation’s Vienna at its finest: and this is what makes it popular with locals of all ages. Josefstadt has theater, small independent shops, romantic passageways, neighborhood cafés with regular clientele, church squares, town palaces and shady communal gardens. Trendy hangouts have conquered distinctive places such as the Old General Hospital (Altes AKH) and the vaults of overground U6. Theater in der Josefstadt on Josefstädter Strasse is the district’s cultural epicenter. Even if your German isn’t good enough to watch a play, you can marvel at the typical Biedermeier building and take a glimpse into the foyer. Lange Gasse houses an iconic local restaurant at its corner, as well as a legendary sweet shop and a bustling neighborhood market every Saturday. For small palace atmosphere and a different view on Vienna’s history, make your way to Schönborn garden palace (Palais Schönborn), which houses the Museum of Folk and Folk Art (Volkskundemuseum). Maria-Treu-Platz, with its summer outdoor cafés facing baroque church Maria Treu, and the historic passageway of Lerchenfelder Strasse 13 hide top spots for insiders.
