We spent the NYE there hoping to have a bit of "fairy" ambiance because of its location and being old time palace ..... BUT a wrong choice ! Staff didn't care at all about the guests specially in the New Year's Eve because of an event they had with people from outside , they occupied all the lobby every seating... More

The original imperial palace standing on this site, was demolished in the early 1900's and was completely rebuilt by 1908. Amongst other things, the building served as a army hospital for both world wars. The building became a hotel in 1988. Well, enough of the history lesson and more about the hotel. I think that the rating of four stars... More

We live in Vienna, but we decided to take a trip to an area we had never been before and my partner stumbled upon this hotel, reading the reviews on tripadvisor we were sceptical as we read it was very run down and wasnt what everyone expected....so here is my experience and by the way before I start, we will... The hotel is large and originally a hospital converted, you can see by the extremely high ceilings and decorations. The rooms are large and spacious, ours with a double bed, but there were also rooms with a double decker area (I will leave this for the younger generation). There was a safe in the room but no tea or coffee... More

The view from this hotel of Vienna makes it worth the stay alone, not the cheapest place we stayed and breakfast was rather extortionate but the rooms were great (double decker!) and the meal was nice, although we got charge a fee which seemed to be just for being able to eat in the restaurant which was a bit weird.... The hotel was gorgeous and relatively easy to get to, it's a short bus ride from the train station. The room of course has a great view above the city, it was a comfortable clean room with a surprisingly modern bathroom. I didn't eat at the restaurant after reading some mediocre reviews, but would definitely stay here again.

Stooped for night back in May. It was only hotel with vacancy during Euro-vision song context weekend. Thanks for that Europe, I have discovered great hotel. Impressive building, quirky rooms and great breakfast. Will come back definitely

This hotel is gorgeous. Yes, it has some age on it, but it's well-maintained & affords spectacular views of the city from its mountaintop location. You'll need a car or to use public transportation to get down into the city - unless you want a serious hike - but the surrounding acreage & walking trails make for a nice lazy... More

Staying in Ottakring

Neighborhood Profile
Ottakring
The production site of popular Ottakringer beer brews up an exciting mix of working and middle class suburbs, Balkanese immigrant lifestyles, and lush patches of hilly woodland. The recently gentrified area around Yppenplatz and Brunnenmarkt boasts hip cafés and bars next to South East European delicacies at Brunnenmarkt street market. The dynamics of Ottakring become most apparent at its vibrant high street Ottakringer Strasse. At the top end you can feast on wine and local food in Austria’s oldest wine tavern 10er Marie. The wines are from the tavern’s own urban vineyards. Before you head upwards, make sure you pay a visit to the historic courtyards between Lerchenfelder Gürtel and Hippgasse. When locals visit Ottakring’s hilly green outskirts on the weekends they either climb up 31 meters of Jubiläumswarte viewing tower on Gallitzinberg, have a succulent Wiener Schnitzel at Villa Aurora, or reward their hiking exertions around Wilhelminenberg with a drink and a view from Wilhelminenberg Palace (now a hotel and restaurant).
