Rick Steves describes this hotel as "classy"; his definition and mine do not intersect. Unfriendly male receptionists - I couldn't get either one to give me a smile through two days of trying. One evening my husband and I were in the common room reading and the receptionist came through and turned off lights at 9:00pm....obviously wanted us out of... More

The Hotel Schweizerhof was a very nice hotel to stay in. It had a really nice elegance to it that was not readily transparent on the website when I was first researching hotels in Vienna. The hotel’s website presentation does not do justice to showing how nice of a hotel this is. It was very clean and comfortable and located... More

Family run hotel in the old city center of Vienna. It is fairly convenient to public transportation. The rooms are fairly large, though the bathrooms are a bit tight. The breakfast is very tasty and presents a nice variety of options. The staff were all very friendly, speak English and are ready to help you. Great location to explore the... More

Our stay started with a very snarky reception. The gentleman did not attempt to help us up the front steps and through 2 big doors with our luggage, then grumbled about how we left the doors open and the hot air was coming in. He softened a bit later in the stay, but neither of the 2 men we met... More

Yes, the location is very convenient to the subway and you can walk to St. Stephens. We stayed three nights and would not go back to this hotel. The room was okay, but the bathroom was ridiculously small -- no leg room for sitting on the toilet! The weather was hot and the room got very warm. The walls are... More

We stayed here three nights in midweek. Harry, Franz and Kalil were friendly and very helpful. They arranged for rides to and from airport. They gave us directions for places we wanted to go. Breakfasts were included. They served a large variety of different foods each day including fruit, vegetables, cold meats, cheese, bread and more. Our room was quiet and... More

My friends and I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights in mid-April, 2015. The location is great, the room price is a little bit high but still acceptable. Because there is a disco or pub in opposite, you will hear very loud noise before 10:00pm. This is not a big problem if you close the window and go to... More

Lobby was clean, felt safe and relaxing. Since we had 10,5 h to before the flight they offered us, like every guest, to leave our bags and use the lobby for relaxation, bathroom and charging our cells. Great hospitality, happy staf, great service and ok breakfast. Damn good coffee! Unfortunatly the breakfastcrew forgot to clean the vegetables and serve them... More

if you go left, you'll be in the danube river. go right, you'll find yourself in stephenplatz. service is good and the food is great. there's nothing much to see when you stepped outside the hotel but a good 4-min walk and you're off to see what vienna has to offer.

As part of a tour group, my wife and I stayed three nights at Hotel Schweizerhof. Our interaction with the staff, though minimal, was pleasant. The room was clean and comfortable, and breakfasts were quite good. It is a two or three block walk to the busier portion of the city. This is good because it kept the traffic and... More

Staying in Inner City

Neighborhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the center. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
