The hostel is quite close to Westbahnhof and to Mariahilfer street, and a 15-20 minutes walk to Museumsquartier. The room was not too clean - there was a pile of orange peels in the middle of the room. The toilets are clean, and you also get access to a roomy kitchen. There are two entrances to the hostel, so it... More

There is a strange smell. Facilities are old and smells. Our bed sheets have lots of hair and is dirty. When I tried to pick up my stuff which fell beside the table, I saw lots of dust. Wifi is FREE but it is not working inside the room.

Although a little dated, our private room was great. It was like a little apartment with separate full kitchen and bathroom. The bed was large and comfy. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There are long termers here and I can see why as it is close to the main shoping area and train stations.

Happy Hostel is an odd place, it feels more like a homeless shelter than a hostel. It is quite intimidating so I would not feel comfortable there if I was a solo traveler. The amenities are however very good - we had a fully equipped kitchen and a dining room in our area of the hostel which was very useful.... More

Stayed at Happy Hostel for one night and really enjoyed my stay. I was lucky enough to find a bed quite early at 8:30 am. The place is quite old but I liked their dorms which are more like an independent apartment having everything.. Wifi is quite weak, rather not available anywhere except the reception area.. Simple and lovely breakfast... More

This place smells strange, the bed in my singleroom too. I payed for a single room with my own shower, still I had to share both shower and one toilet with 4 other persons. It's very easy to hear the neighbours! And traffic outside. My room were three stairs up and there were no lights by the stairs, creepy when... More

We were there for 3 days at the end of December. Had a private double with shared bathroom. We got a room in a small appartment of two locked rooms, a bathroom and a small kitchen corner. We were lucky cause there was noone else in the second room, so it was quiet. The room was clean and warm, a... More

Staying in Mariahilf

Neighborhood Profile
Mariahilf
Vienna’s sixth district hosts high street shopping heaven and pedestrian area Mariahilfer Strasse. The weirdest local building is probably the city aquarium Haus des Meeres, housed in one of Vienna’s six remaining World War II defense towers, and topped with a rooftop bar that offers stunning views over Vienna and the center. One of the most historic sites in the area is the passageway of 18th century Raimundhof with its small shops and cafés. It leads from Mariahilfer Strasse to Windmühlgasse. For a glimpse into the world of early 19th century theater, visit Semperdepot, the former depository for theater decoration, which now hosts art exhibitions and fairs.
