It's a nice hotel, week situated with a great terrace, and the staff are relatively polite, but the food is kind of meh and looks a lot better than it tastes. Cocktails were pretty good though, and the clientele were from a variety of backgrounds, some musical, some commercial, but an interesting bunch, and popular with the locals

The hotel Stein is located centrally on the river Salzach. Interior design is retro-style, rooms are spacious, beds were very old and therefore the quality of sleep was poor. Service can be improved. The view from the roof-top terrace is great.

Me and my husband loved the location opposite the river, the whole theme was nice, receptionists were friendly but the only issue is with service and the food quality in the roof top restaurant wasn't as I expected especially with high price

We are staying at the Stein at the moment and have had a very good experience so far! I was worried when we arrived, because of the negative reviews, but we have not encountered the horrors mentioned...Reception staff were friendly and helpful. our room is on the 5th floor, at the back of the hotel and is spacious .The bathroom... The stein hotel was the WORST hotel I've ever stayed at. We stayed for three nights and every single one of those nights was sleepless due to the smell of smoke in and around our room, yes there was people smoking in the hotel. Disgustingly dirty!! Poor service! The only good thing about it was the views from the rooftop...... More

Our room was on the rear of the hotel: fine but why furnish with such dark decore!!!?? No... More

Well its a real shame. This place has potential. There are some things you cant change in life. Location, size and views and all these are superb and come with bells on. The rest you can manage - the terrace bar that serves breakfast, drinks, lunch and evening snacks has no management presence and lacks training and leadership. Wasted opportunity... More

Pros: Excellent Location, big room (triple), big bed, rooftop restaurant, view, price. Cons: Average service at rooftop restaurant, no fan in bathroom, decor & furniture need updating. Could be stunning with an overhaul & training staff in the art of service.

Stayed for 3 nights at Hotel Stein in beautiful Salzburg. The hotel is bang smack in the centre , on the river and directly opposite the old town. An old fashioned looking hotel, I booked on a special rate and didn't expect tòo much .My room was exceptionally small though it had everything I needed and was clean. The best... More
