Further to the review posted by Karlmeister back in May this year. We had the same experience. We booked two double rooms back in January for our stay in Salzburg over the next couple of weeks, August 2014. Having booked, we then saw some poor reviews of the hotel here on Trip Advisor and decided to cancel . This was... More

Well, I'm not sure why people grump about the rooms. We viewed several, and they were large in size with fabulous ceiling heights (we didn't stay in a suite, but I did peep into one, looked amazing!) The rooms are decorated simply, and in keeping with the era of the house (although don't explore the furniture too closely, what we... More

We found the room as a last minute deal, we were backpacking so probably wouldn't pay normal price for somewhere so far out, but I am glad that we stumbled upon this gem. The staff are lovely and very welcoming, happy to tell you the stories and history of the family and the beautiful house. The only complaint I could... More

We arrived at 6pm to a very nice Elisabeth. She welcomed us warmly and gave us some good tips on where to eat. Our room was nice and comfortable. It is a bed and breakfast type of set up so for all who complain about the room I am a bit confused. One tip would be to put screens on... More

If the story of the von Trapp family has enriched your life then this is an experience you know how to value. Not a hotel, though the suites are typical of Austrian or European pensions, but that's not why we came. We were upgraded to the Baron's suite, including sitting room, bedroom and bathroom and were able to hold the... More

Since the hotel was fully booked (you have to make reservations well in advance of your stay) we only took the tour. It was conducted in perfect English by the owner of the hotel and was absolutely fascinating. The real story is quite different from the American version of the sound of music, but no less interesting - the owner... More

Firstly, we booked in September 2013 to make a reservation & unlike most hotels the £'s were taken immediately..... BUT it was worth it as we stayed in Maria's Room...... Upon our arrival we were greeted by Elisabeth who was so helpful, explaining where to go, what you may want to visit & where to eat to suit your budget......... More

First off, you are paying for the experience. Don't be confused about that. This is for history lovers and fans of the Von Trapp family and the Sound of Music story. When I travel I like to stay in places with some sort of meaning or purpose if I can. I loved staying here. It is out of the city,... More

I booked a room with free cancellation. I had to cancel and I never got my money back. Even after several emails and calls. They don't answer. Better avoid this place if you have intention on maybe cancelling your stay.

We weren't planning on staying here but it was such a good deal online last minute that we couldn't not stay. We got an apartment on the top floor and it was awesome! Two bedrooms, a bathroom and a living room for the price of a regular hotel room! The staff is awesome too. Very helpful and knowledgable. Breakfast was... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Villa Trapp was the residence of the world-famous Von Trapp family, whose life in Salzburg entered history as "The Sound of Music", the most popular musical of all times. The villa is maintained in the style of this period, including 2 luxurious, 60 m² suites. They are exclusively furnished. In the past the Villa Trapp was not accessible to the public. Now you can sleep in the family's rooms and walk on their paths through the villa and the park. This stately building enjoys a quiet location close to the centre of Salzburg, surrounded by the city's largest private park. ... more   less
