We were definitely disappointed by our stay in the Gruner Baum in Hallstatt. We had booked a junior suite with a large balcony overlooking the lake. The view is gorgeous, but the rest of the experience doesn't justify the pricey 200 Euros/night. The furniture is spartan and uncomfortable. The worst part of the experience was the smell in the bathroom:... more

We stayed at Hotel Gruner Baum for 3 days in May 07 for our honeymoon! The hotel is extremely central, but everything is central in such a tiny town. We reserved the nicest room with largest private terrace to unwind after 3 busy days in Venice. When we arrived, there were flower petals and candles on the coffee table with... more

Staying at Seehotel Gruner Baum was a bizarre experience, and not one we would like to repeat. We wanted to go to Hallstadt because it looked beautiful (and it is) and we did considerable research into where to stay beforehand. We chose Gruner Baum, which seemed to be the best accommodation in town. When we arrived we found the hotel... more

No question: staying the Gruner Baum is all about the view. We had 2 adjoining rooms on the 2nd floor (there's no elevator), with balconies overlooking the lake. Breathtaking! But the rooms themselves are spare, with a somewhat cold ambience. The hotel is in need of maintenance. Re the breakfast: we arrived after a large group had just eaten, and... more

Hallstatt is one of the most beautiful places in Europe. So much so that it's hard to criticize a hotel in this town that puts you in a room with a balcony overlooking the lake. This was not a cheap hotel at all -- expect to pay upwards of $200/night for a room. It's a very old hotel, with lots... more

Hallstatt, Austria is one of the most spectacular settings in a quaint, small town in the Austrian Alps. But as great as the town is, the hotel is ordinary. The rooms were large but very old and dreadfully needing updating. The location is fine and the breakfast is the typically Germanic fare, but you might want to consider some other... more

We loved the Gruner Baum. The three of us stayed in room 301, which was a good-sized suite, with a walk-in closet, and the largest balcony I have ever seen. The view from the balcony was so magnificent, we spent a lot of time out there. We found the owner and staff to be very friendly and helpful. The dinner... more

At first we had not wanted a hotel too centrally located. But don't worry, with a room facing the lake you will not be bothered by tourists or their noises. The lady owner is hardworking and friendly, as are all other staff. The decor is thoughtful with good taste, fresh fruits at the stair landings, pot pourri in the bathroom,... more

The Seehotel Gruner Baum is located in Hallstatt, a charming town in the Salzkammergut area of Austria. The hotel is located directly on a lake and some rooms have small balcony opening out to the lake. The hotel and the rooms are very quaint and comfortably situated for European standards. The hotel has a restaurant that serves excellent food. Our... more

We went to the Gruner Baum with no ideas what to expect however it was the best holiday we have done in a long time. The place is from a storybook. The rooms are great and lots of character, a very special place with alot of special people. I would go back in a minute. I agree with the option... more
