This hotel is in a great location in the charming little town of Melk, and its historic significance makes it a special place. When we walked into the hallway, I was immediately struck by the quirkiness of the place, but then, that just adds to its charm. We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. This is how our stay there... We stayed at this hotel and had a wonderful time. The male owner with the beaded beard was very kind. I mentioned it was my wife's birthday and the next day at breakfast he surprised her with flowers and a little cake complimentary. We extended our stay because we felt so comfortable being there. They were very good about storing... More

The rudest hotelier in the world is at Goldener Stern, Melk, Austria. We arrived with back packs at 1.15pm 6 Sept 2014 and were offered a room by the male owner, which we were told would not be ready until 2pm. We agreed to take it, and went to explore the town, returning up hill to the hotel with our... More

My two older children and I stayed here for one night - we were warmly greeted at the door and the room we had was sweet with a view of the Abbey. We would have loved to have stayed longer. We enjoyed the quirky items around the room and the breakfast was sensational. We would have eaten in the restaurant... More

We stayed one night while traveling from Vienna to Hallstatt. Melk Abbey had been recommended by my neighbors who travel extensively. It was an easy walk with a rolling suitcase to the B&B from the train station. The B&B is in the center of town and located next to the abbey. The room was clean with a comfortable bed and... More

Stayed 1 night on Danube cycle trip . We were expecting to really like this hotel given the reviews but was underwhelmed on most counts . Our welcome was perfunctory and i don't think the owners acknowledged us at all during our stay . The room was massively over cluttered including at least 5/6 plants ( plastic and real) Breakfast... We stayed in the last available room that included its own bathroom. The room was small (just barely room for the bed and a dresser), but the price was right, and we were greeted very warmly. Breakfast was great; when the owner found out my wife has a pre-diabetes condition that requires her to keep carb consumption low, she went... More

Great guesthouse with warm and friendly staff. Cool and unique rooms with a delicious breakfast. We liked it so much we extended our stay. We had dinner at the restaurant which was also very nice. The owner was great he even brought my wife a cake and flowers at breakfast for her birthday.

This was our second visit to the Goldener Stern and what a warm welcome we received! It was wonderful to be back to stay in such a comfortable place. This property sits below the Abbey and is in the centre of town so everything is handy. Breakfast was as good as ever & it was lovely to be able to... More

We were welcomed like we were coming home. The hotel sits in the shadow of the Melk Abbey and our spacious room overlooked the town and cathedral. It's a 15 minute walk from the river boat station which is how we arrived and a 5 minute walk to the train station. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent and breakfast was... More
