Cycling along the upper Danube among Gruner Veltliner vineyards and apricot blossoms (apricots are ever-present here in jams, aperitifs, stews, juices, and pastries) is a compelling memory that demanded a return to fabled Durnstein. Our base is the Sanger Blondel Hotel, run by the Familie Schendl since 1730. Our accommodation looks out over an exquisite shaded garden in bloom where... More

Stayed at the Sanger Blondel for 2 nights in October. The hotel was very well run and the rooms were nice although I think they need to be updated. The hotel provided free parking which was quite important in this small jam-packed town. The breakfasts served were nicely prepared and there was a good variety of food to choose from.... More

My preference when in Europe is a small, three-star, family-run hotel. The Sanger Blondel met my needs perfectly in Dürnstein, as charming and picturesque a village as you can hope to find. The other two hotels in the village are more costly, and I don't need their expensive amenities. Having said that, the Sanger Blondel did not lack for any... More

Sure, the room is pretty basic (it's a B&B, not a 5 star), there's no elevator nor AC. But in every other aspect, this place deserves maximum points. My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights during a stopover between Vienna and Salzburg, and we had a lovely time here. Service: The Schendl family (who runs this B&B) goes... More

We spent 5 nights here and really enjoyed it. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome. The owners are very friendly, helpful and most gracious, as are all their staff. We had requested a bigger room and were very happy with it, spotlessly clean, a comfortable bed, plenty of seating and a lovely view overlooking... More

This picturesque little Inn complete with shutters and flower boxes is all you'd ever want in a small rural village. It's actually larger than we thought. It has over 20 rooms. Ours overlooked the garden and was quite spacious with simple yet functional furniture and modern bath. There is no elevator nor A/C but a fan was provided and much... More

Beautiful little B&B with a super-friendly staff and some nice touches- cool, clean rooms and internet kiosk. Just a few seconds from anything you might want to see in Durnstein. Will be back there for sure.

A really good choice for people travelling in the magnificent Wachau region. Durnstein is probably the nicest small town in this area and the Sanger Blondel hotel offers a kind service in a simple, cosy and absolutely welcoming structure.

My girlfriend and I stayed here on vacation in May '11. Durnstein is a wonderful, tiny town along the Danube. The rooms were small, but very tidy and perfect since all we did was sleep in the rooms at night. The hotel was very quiet, as well. Our room had a view of the castle, which was a great surprise.... My husband and I spent 3 nights here in early October. Herr and Frau Shindl could not have been more welcoming. They personally greeted us on arrival and were very helpful with suggestions on what to do and where to go. Herr Shindl suggested we take our bike ride one day, for example, because the weather would be changing and... More
