A member of the Relais & Châteaux hotel chain, Hotel Schloss Duernstein is a lovely luxury hotel on the Danube with a superb restaurant. A summer dinner next to the Danube accompanied by impeccably selected wines by the sommelier made for a memorable evening. The breakfast buffet is also excellent. The room we stayed in was somewhat small, but beautifully... More

What an impressive hotel. Such old time luxury. Our room was a suite with a wonderful view. All the staff was welcoming, professional & helpful. The town is an easy walk from the hotel & so is the boat ramp to take a day river cruise. The restaurant was very good & the breakfast selection was varied. Piano player near... More

A huge and wonderful room/suite with tiny bathroom, beautifully appointed. Great, great food. Highly recommend. Tiny medieval village on the Danube. Atop a hill are the ruins of the Castle where King Richard I of England 1157-1199 was kept captive for ransom of 100,000 pounds of silver and released in 1194. Captured while returning from Third Crusades. History buffs will... More

We had a smaller room toward the back of the hotel with a lovely view of the river and clock tower. We were comfortable but the room would have been nicer with a bit less furniture in it. The bathroom was nice though we had to sit in the bathtub to take a shower as there was no curtain. They... More

Trying to escape the sub standard food on a Tauck river cruise we were directed to the resturant for dinner A hesitant welcome blossomed by an accommodating waiting staff and knowledgeable sommelier. Sticking to the traditional Austrian Menu of Fois Gras ( Excellent ), autumnal dumplings, Wiener schnitzel and Goulash we left very content Advice as to local wines -... More

The view and room left me speechless when we arrived, the hotel staff were excellent and very well informed. The location was fantastic with wonderful views and easy access to a variety of locations. I cannot thank my husband enough for finding this wonderful location for our honeymoon.

I can't really understand the people who give this place a bad review. Maybe they are bad tippers or maybe they did stay during a hear wave, but we just returned and it could not have been nicer. We arrived from Prague after a crazy self drive thru the backroads/woods. We had resv at a nice local restaurant but choose... More

Like previous reviews there are good and bad points to the hotel. Good is the location, the bartenders, breakfast and the dinner. Not so good was the décor of the rooms, all in the need for a good redo, outdated to say the least.

We did not stay here but inquired about lunch while in Durnstein. The front desk clerk was a blonde lady who was so snotty that I thought she was oxygen deprived. We asked about lunch, and with her nose so far up in the air she was star gazing, she told us it was reservation only. What was interesting is... More

This hotel is in an outstanding location overlooking the Danube; a private haven away from the tourist hordes. We chose the hotel for its historical charm. For those seeking modern and sharp over charming in-sync-with the village surrounds, this place is probably not for you. Unfortunately We stayed for a week during the heatwave. I'd booked one of historical rooms... More
