Spent 2 or 3 nights here with my friend. We had a Sulap (bungalow) with twin beds and a fan. The room was quite basic, but is was okay, as you won't sit in your room when you are at a place like this. There are hammock under every bungalow and everywhere in the property, so you can bring your... More

Mari Mari Backpacker Lodge is a well kept facility, the huts are basic but nice and clean, and staff is helpful. It seems that revenue management hasn't reached the island and they are reluctant to discount a penny regardless of the lodge being almost empty. Snorkling is quite poor, coral gardens are nice but wildlife is almost missing due to... More

We've stayed for three nights on mantanani. The marimari is a good place to be on the island. Sadly the beaches on the island are far away from clean .... Diving: very diverse coral gardens with a lot of small fish .. unfortunatly bigger fish are sparse and traces from dynamite fishing are obvious -anyway thats not the fault of... More

We chose to stay at Mantanani because it seemed to be the least dear island option out of KK. The cute huts are basic inside, and you don't miss the electricity during the day. Food was average. The highlight of our stay was the diving which was well organised at an affordable cost. While the water was beautiful, the resort... More

We spent three days and two nights on Mantanani at the Mari Mari backpackers. The location is stunning and absolutely beautiful, the huts are clean and beds comfortable. The shower is not great, takes ages to get a decent amount of water and electricity only runs during the night. Breakfast was just okay but don't expect anything special in terms... More

Accomodation very basic, food OK, but limited. But the white sandy beach, clear water, stunning view and excellent diving and snorkeling more than make up for it. Staff were friendly and helpful. No cars, electricity, clear skies, pure air, we left feeling totally recharged.

Too many teenagers! An infestation of them! There is a summer camp between the main area and the dorm area and the whole feel of the place is taken over by teenagers, their minders and counselors. Of course, one can ignore this, but it certainly colors the vibe. And that seemed to be the only vibe. The food? The food... More

This beautiful island is set in turquoise seas perfect for anyone learning to dive. The lodge is basic back packers in little stilted chalets. Be warned this is an island so running water and electricity are only available when the sun goes down. The food is plentiful and tasty but basic. The dive guides are superb and the diving is... My exceptional experience at Mari Mari Backpackers Lodge is the reason I have finally decided to create a tripadvisor account. From the moment I was picked up in Kota Kinabalu, to being returned I was in good hands, and received exactly what I had expected (if not more). The guides that joined us on the bus provided all necessary information... More
