Situated about 1.5 km off Route 1 in the shadows of the looming Mt. Petursey it is easy to miss this guesthouse despite the little sign that marks the turn into its driveway. A small little place managed by Sigurd, this has about 6-7 rooms ( at least in the building that we stayed) that share two clean WCs. We... More

I've booked 1 night at Guesthouse Vellir for 5 people in February 2015. We departed early morning for Guesthouse Vellir but the weather was really bad. We were caught in a snow-storm with winds blowing with 200 kph on the road from Reykjavik to Gueshouse Vellir. We tried advancing but it proved impossiblea s we were in a line of... More

Though by definition this hotel is not luxurious, i rate it 5 stars because the owner was really great, welcoming and helpful. She took us in late at night (10pm or so) after we had been looking around, tired and cold. The room was so cozy and warm! we had three beds (one for each) and we all loved how... More

This hotel feels like the middle of nowhere near the ocean! Beautiful surroundings. We got our room upgraded which was lovely and had dinner, which although fairly expensive, was great. Lovely hosts and breakfast - ask about the paintings!

One night stay here on January 2nd. We stayed in a lovely hut which had several rooms with 1 to 3 twin sized beds as well as a loft. Bedding and towels were clean and comfortable. Breakfast included more substantial food than all of the other places we stayed. We were only here in the dark so we didn't experience... More

Firstly a beautiful location. Very remote with lovely views of the ocean, farmland and the snow covered mountains. The place appeared to have been recently renovated. The rooms were nice; ours had a nice view of the mountains and the sea. The bathrooms was a good size and in good order. Bedding and towels were nice and clean. Room was... More

We stayed at Guesthouse Vellir for one night in September. This is a fairly newly renovated establishment, the rooms are of good standard and the breakfast was excellent. The best sellingpoint of Vellir is the view, which is gorgeous, as well as the quaint and quiet farmyard feeling you get with nearby grazing sheep. I recommend stopping here if you... More

When we checked in we were told that we were in one of the "holiday cottages", not the hotel, which sounded great but actually meant that we were in a scruffy hut away from the main hotel. Our first concern was the appearance of the cottage from the parking space. The door was actually round the back, and the front... More
