Amazing hostel, beautifully decorated, spacious and comfortable. I'm used to staying in dorm rooms with lots of beds and no space, but this had all the space you needed, and was kept tidy by the busy and friendly staff. There were many many bathrooms to choose from, and they were regularly stocked and cleaned. Kitchen was clean and well equipped... More

The staff was ok and did their job. The bed was comfy. Everything was neat and clean, including bathrooms. In the bathrooms there were shared shower rooms (of course separate for men and women), which means there were a few showers in one room which some people may find uncomfortable. The place has a really nice atmosphere and looks new.... More

Stayed here for 7 nights. Excellent hostel with friendly staff. The beds were comfortable, kitchen has all basic items for cooking, and everything was very clean. The decor of the entire place is so lovely. Very cozy atmosphere with a bar and restaurant. We ate there twice and the food was superb! The beer was great too and they had... More

Stayed here in march of last year, great place highly reccomended on hostelworld.com. The place is beautiful and worth every dime. Breakfast was expensive and really you can save the couple of bucks on it and just go to the local grocery store (becareful on sundays they close really really early) or the convenience store behind the hostel for breakfast... This won't be everybody's cup of tea. It is young and hip, though we aren't and we felt right at home. We had a private double room, which was great. The bar are is very hip and cool with live Jazz on a Tuesday. We didn't stay for the duration of the great jazz because we are too old and... More

I stayed for 2 nights on end of March 2014. The first night i arrive around 2 am in the morning, the receptionist was friendly. Everything was as commented below- comfortable duvet, pillow and bed. The best thing I like for KEX was each floor has its own kitchen which means you don't need to go through the lobby or... More

This hostel has an amazing vibe - very eclectic and quirky. The vibe is chilled and very homely. There is a great bar/dining area and free wifi. Rooms were great for a short stay - 7 of us in 1 dorm for a night, enough room and clean. Would happily stay there again and highly recommend it to others.

This hostel seems to embody the cool, hipster vibe this whole country has going on :) Interior is really cool, from the lobby to the communal kitchens and bathrooms. Location isn't too bad either, as Reykjavik is small enough to walk almost everywhere. All staff was also very nice - the only minor downside of my stay was the fact... More

This hostel is very trendy and the food is amazing. The bathrooms and bedrooms are clean. I would definitely stay here again. The nightlife is great here as well. We had so much fun here. This is a very nice hostel, not quite a hostel, almost a hotel!

We booked one night here on the recommendation of friends. THANK GOODNESS it was only one night. The decor is fantastic, the staff are helpful, polite and friendly, the food was delicious (but expensive - as everywhere is in Iceland - 4 burgers, one salad and 4 beers = Equivalent of about £85) someone has put a lot of effort... Official Description (provided by the hotel):
It' s the Icelandic word for "biscuit" and a social hostel in Reykjavik. What's not to love? Housed in an old biscuit factory in the heart of Reykjavik, KEX is just steps from all the bars, clubs, and music venues that give this city its legendary reputation. It's also a painless distance from late night munchies and a mind-boggling array of coffee houses, shops, and tourist attractions. Of course, you might not even want to venture outside of the hostel with all its features: a cafe and bar, lounge area, heated outdoor patio, tourist information desk, laundry room, small fitness centre, and free Wi-Fi. Two guest kitchenettes and private laundry facilities are also available. And with a variety of rooms for up to 138 guests, you'll have no problem meeting interesting, new travel buddies from exotic places. KEX oozes with personality and soul-just like our guests. Every piece of decor has a story to tell. Using salvaged materials and found objects from various sources, KEX is an organic concept blending Iceland' s past with a modern, international twist. The raw industrial spaces and vintage furnishings combine to give it a homey, eclectic feel. With the affordable nightly rates, you'll still have enough cash left over to enjoy a few pints of Viking beer or sample some local delicacies like hakarl and Brennivin. In addition to our dormitory rooms we offer three different double rooms: 1. Double Plus - 1 double bed, 1 private bathroom, linens and towels, and 1 fantastic seaside view. 2. Double Standard - 1 double bed (of the most clever convertible design in case you get tired of being so close to your travel partner), shared bathrooms, linens and towels, and if you are lucky the same fantastic view. 3. Twin - 2 single beds, linens and towels, and a better than average chance of making your friends back home quite jealous indeed. LOCATION: KEX is located in the centre of Reykjavik, with a view across the sea to Mt. Esja across the bay. The old factory that houses KEX is also home to The Living Art Museum and studios of various artists, dancers, and fashion designers. KEX is within an easy walking distance to the city's interesting nightlife, restaurants, shopping streets, cultural attractions, and other points of interest in the city centre. To reach those places a little further afield, the hostel is well connected to the city's public bus system. ... more   less
