We had problems with the original guesthouse that we had booked in Reykjavik and had to change accommodation. Gunnar was very helpful from the outset and we booked the House of Spirits via email. The website is very 1998 and there were hardly any reviews here earlier in the year, so it felt a bit like booking the unknown. We... more

I was part of a group of 9 in an extended family headed to Iceland for my sister-in-law's wedding. Obviously, with a group including people ranging in age from 15 to 75, we knew it was going to be difficult to find a place that catered to everyone. Luckily, we did. Staying at the House of the Spirits feels like... more

This was a brilliant little iinexpensive guesthouse - we booked after seeing all the positive reviews on this site, and I am so grateful for the existence of Tripadvisor as we found an absolute gem of a place. Gunnar and Andres (owners) both work in the tourism industry so as well as being thoughtful guesthouse owners, they can answer any... more

We stayed in the basement studio last month. The room and bathroom was bright, clean, comfy with a handy kitchen area. The location is right in the middle of town, within easy reach of the harbour (2 minutes), all the restaurants, bars, shops (from 2 - 20 minutes) and bus station (about 20 minutes walk). The owners Gunnar and Anders... more

This is the best deal you will get for your money in Reykjavik. Accommodation prices can be outrageous in the city so it's important to make sure you are getting the most for your money. At House of the Spirits you will. Here is why: 1) The location is perfect---it's one block behind the Tourist Information Centre in the city... more

The location was great - we could get all over Rekyjavik by foot. We had six people in our group and the three bedrooms were perfect for us and the kitchen gave us a great place to hang out after a long day of traveling around the island. Anderas and Gunnar were very friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable. They gave us... more

We stayed two times 3 nights in two of the studio flats in the House of Spirits. These are more like student accommodation than luxury studios but do have modern shower rooms and kitchenettes. Their great advantage is location (residential street very close to the centre) and price. Gunnar, the owner, is very friendly but rather disorganised - arrival arrangements... more

We stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment next to the city hall and the lake. It is so close to the main centre , the tourist office is 5 mins walk. It was very quiet though even on Independence day when everyone was celebrating. The apartment has two bedroom, one with a large kingsize bed one with a double. Gunner... more

We were concerned when we decided to travel to Iceland because the cost of visiting is so high. We searched for weeks before we found the House of the Spirits, which was reasonably priced. Apartments are very well-appointed and comfortable, and decorated in the Icelandic style. Each apartment offers a private bathroom, dining area, comfortable bed, and space for clothes... more
