We checked in and left after an hour.. It's a shame the bottle of tequila in reception is empty. Really. Ended up being charged 10% more than we were quoted on the site. It's dreadful, I can't even be witty about this place. Tiny dirty bathrooms, awful shower, max box 'room' and nowhere to dry our soaked clothing. We have... More

Vickingur is an passable guesthouse and the cheapest we found at Reykjavik. It is close to the center and around 20-30 minutes walking to the bus station. We were not overcharged by the WIFI or the city fee, and we paid through the booking website so we did not have the problems that other travelers report. Rooms are simple but... More

Good points: close to city centre in a quiet neighbourhood Points for improvement: Initially looked reasonably priced but when adding all the additional basically hidden costs listed in the lobby of the guest house (photos) this becomes an expensive place to stay for the quality the traveller gets. The room was very small. One shower facility shared between the two... More

Having only read the reviews after I had come home, I definitely agree with many people here when they say this place is to be warned about. It's only saving grace was it's proximity to the city centre and the rooms, while being basic, were warm and fairly clean with a locking door. The vibe in the guesthouse was definitely... More

Pros: -The location is walkable from city center, so very convenient. -The bedding and room is clean. -Bathroom was clean first day :) Cons: -You have to pay extra for the wifi password. That is not mentioned in any of the booking sites. -There is no telephone facility in the house. Literally there is no help from reception. -The wash... More

Several days ago I booked in Guest house Vikingur in Reykjavik, Iceland for 8 nights offer price online 45.000 Icelandic krona. After I go to check in at 11.00am the staff said I must wait 3 hours more, so I turn around, and came back later. They asked me to pay 53.500 krona instead of 45.000kr as I have it confirmed in... I stayed at the vikingur hotel for one night before heading to other parts of iceland. The hotel was well located, just approximately 5 - 10 minutes walk from the city centre. The staff was really nice, I met mo who was helping me settle in when I checked in, he was really helpful and solved many of my questions... More

Having stayed here and having read many TripAdvisor reviews AFTER staying here, I think there must have been a management and staff change. Magnus and Max are great co-managers and are warm and friendly and very welcoming. We were actually able to get a discount (not a markup) through CouchSurfing, for the 2 nights we stayed there. Yes, it's location... More

Everything wrong with Egilsborg Guesthouse: 1) You will pay up to 10% more than the price announced by hotels.com (the owner will tell you it is additional tax and credit card supplement… this has never happen in any others hotels we stayed in Reykjavik) 2) nobody to welcome you. A key with a piece of paper with your name in... More

We stayed here for four nights at the end of our two week tour of Iceland. We booked through trivago and had a very strict budget to stick to and found a lot of Reykjavik accommodation out of our price range. As one of the cheapest places in Reykjavik it is basic. In the communal area there was a TV... More
