Thorsteinn and his wife are v friendly and helpful hosts! They made us feel welcome and homely the moment we arrived. The cabin was clean, warm and cosy. It was magical when we opened the door one night and realize it was snowing. The sight was so beautiful. My husband and I were grateful to Thorsteinnfor going the extra mile... More

We pulled into Guesthouse Skalafell, and stayed in a super cute cabin on a farm. The farm owners cooked us a wonderful cod dinner, and we chatted with some fellow travelers. This was actually a pleasant surprise! I love this little cabin in the middle of nowhere. :)

Paid approximately 13000 krona ($130 CAD) for a one night stay in the main house and approx 4000 krona ($40 CAD per dinner). This was slightly more expensive than comparable places in Iceland (generally 11000 krona per stay, 3000 krona per meal). Our room was clean but small, and included a sink and desk. A common bathroom was shared between... More

We stayed her in January and were the only guests. Our little cabin was a blast from the past, but a very comforatble stay. The shower was a bit awkward, but the water was super hot. The cold water tasted like it was just from the glacier. Dinner was simple, but delicious lamb and vegetables. Breakfast was a feast with... More

We had to locate Guesthouse Skalafell in the dark which was tricky, as Iceland seems to have a curious aversion to road signage. We did end up making it after stopping at a farm a few kilometres away to ask for directions. We stayed for one night. When we arrived, we were given a warm welcome and directed to our... More

Stayed 5 nights here. Host, Thorstein was very helpful. He helped us arrange for ice cave tour and gave great advice on activities available. Breakfast every morning is simple but nice and fulfilling. Dinner option was nicely done every night. Good variety in terms of main course. Cabins are nice and cozy. Well maintained. Wifi signal is quite strong.

This place was a little hard to find, it didn't show up on our rental car GPS and unfortunately we were searching for it at night in a snowstorm, but once we found it, it was wonderful. Very cute place with a friendly staff. Very reasonably piced with a delicious included breakfast. We weren't able to see th Northen Lights... More

Stayed here for three nights in March 2014. Its a long drive from Reykjavik but the area was just stunning. We used this as a base to explore a lot of Vatanjokull area. The owners are very helpful and gave us great recommendations for places to visit including a remote glacier and lake where my husband and I were the... More

We stayed for three nights as part of a one week holiday in Iceland, this was our favourite spot! We arrived late (around 11pm) after driving straight from the airport, we had a very friendly welcome and were shown to our very cosy cabin. The heating was on so it was lovely and warm! The guesthouse is on a very... More

Stayed here for one night in February after driving out from Reykjavik. It was a long drive, but well worth it for the stunning scenery throughout the journey. Although we arrived quite late, the evening meal (a hot buffet with roast lamb from the farm and salmon) was waiting for us, together with a lovely chocolate birthday cake for one... More
