The Edda hotel in Akureyri is one of the best hotels I have seen in Iceland. But be careful! Firstly the hotels that form the Edda hotel chain differ immensely from each other. There are basic, if not to say downright bad, Edda hotels in Iceland, and then there is this one. To make things even more complicated this one... More

Hotel Edda is a chain of hotels which are only open during the summer months as they serve as a school during the winter months. I have stayed here on several occasions, first time when I was a child, the second time in July 2010 and the third time in July 2012. It is a lovely hotel with spacious rooms.... More

We spent one night here last July. The rooms are very small the shower is far away. The is no lift and it can be heavy to take your suitcase to the room on the third floor. The hotel is a little far away from the cuty center. It can be very crowded here since a lot of tour buses use this hotel.

My room was apparently in the newer wing, and was spacious, well-furnished, clean, and quiet. It could have been a good business hotel in the U.S., except for the absence of wi-fi, and a tv that carried exactly two channels, one devoted to Akureyri itself. In any case, it certainly didn't seem like a student dorm, unless today’s students are... More

Our room was in the new side of the hotel and was large, clean, and quiet. The furniture was actually pretty nice for a dorm, although the beds were a bit hard. The rooms have a kitchenette with a small fridge, sink, hotplate, and what we assumed was a microwave? The room had a tv, but only got two channels.... More

The hotel has two kinds of rooms: standard hotel rooms and dorm-like rooms with shared facilities. The one we chose were the cheap ones and they were OK. Clean, comfortable, with pristine facilities. No complains then. However, both computers and wifi are paying, which is not very convenient. A five minute walk and you are in the main street, so... More

Overall, I liked the location. It's easy to find (as is everything in Iceland) -- and clean, comfortable and a great desk staff who helped me with finding some places off the beaten track (which I highly recommend doing -- i.e., driving to Davik or Grimsey or points further north if you are there in Summer to see the midnight... You need to understand that this Hotel is actually 2 buildings. One is older, while the other is relatively new and will thus give you a different experience. Booked this hotel last minute via Kayak and Hotel Edda definitely provides good value for money - when compared to other Icelandic hotel options. The hotels are actually school campus accommodation that... More

I wish my university hall had been as good as this. Used by coach parties staying just one or two nights It was mainly staffed by the students who were exceptionally friendly and efficient. The evening buffets and breakfasts were excellent. Convenient for town and the nearby botanical garden.

The staff was really nice. I booked a room with washbin only. That part of the hotel was not yet ready, so they upgraded me to a room with own bathroom. They first gave me a room in the first floor, directly next to the entrance. Since I needed a quiet room (because of very light sleep) they gave me... More
