My boyfriend and I stayed at Skjaldarvik Guesthouse in July for 5 days. Although there are a number of places in Akureyri, we decided to make this our "base camp" as we visited the surrounding areas within a couple hours' drive, so we wouldn't be concerned about finding accommodations in the evening. This is a lovely guesthouse run by a... More

The guesthouse was really lovely with the interior full of lots of trinkets. The bathrooms are shared but being a former nursing home, they were nice and roomy! Our bedroom was very comfortable, warm and individually decorated (the owner is a graphic designer) and having arrived in the dark, what a treat to see we were on the water's edge... More

We stayed one night at Skjaldarvik Guesthouse in February 2013 and it was a unique experience. The rooms were very clean, the couple running the guesthouse were extremely friendly, the breakfast (especially the ginger-beetroot shot!) was delicious, and the huge outdoor hot bath was amazing!

It was by far the best place we stayed in Iceland. It is very different from any other place you can ever stay. Located on the bank of the fjiord overlooking the mountains on the other side of the sea and surrounded by great fields with horses, the set up is simply magnificent. Previously a nursing home, has been converted brilliantly... More

This b & b was in a beautiful location, right on the water's edge. All hotel rooms in Iceland appear to be very basic, but then you only sleep in there, don't you? Horse riding was my special treat - right along the water's edge and up around the hills. - what an experience. Stunning scenery and a beautiful place... More

It is a bit different from a standard hotel or guesthouse, so I'm giving four instead of five as the rating simply to help others know that this might not be the right place for them if they expect everything to be the same as a Hilton. It's not, and that's what -- to me -- makes Skjaldarvik a great... More

This has been one of the better (if not best) guest house experiences during my stay in Iceland (about halfway through). Rooms and common areas and bathrooms are clean, and the house itself is beautiful, and nestled in a small valley right next to one of the fjords. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is included, and served in... More

OK - the first impression is more of a hospital or school and the rooms are very basic, we instantly have falle in love with this place. The warm welcome when checking in, the location on the fjoard, the hammocks in front of the house,... But the biggest plus is the dinner. It has been one of the best within... More

We stayed here last week for 2 nights. The guest house is very warm and welcoming. The staff is very helpful. We went for a riding tour and enjoyed it very much. The young lady who was our guide was an accomplished horse woman and instilled a sense of quiet and competent calm. Our horses were quiet and calm too!... More

We stayed in this guest house for one night during a trip in Iceland, we were considering also other places due to common bathrooms and the fact that it is not so close to the city centre, but the reviews were so good... and they were true: the accommodation is perfect. Rooms are big, comfortable and quiet (even the one... More
