This place was so cozy and comfortable. There was a great hot tub right outside out door too. The bed was very comfortable. The bathrooms were shared but they were so clean and cozy, we didn't mind at all! Breakfast was delicious - especially all the jams and the pancakes.

The facility is exceptionally good. Spacious room, comfortable bed. An ample number of well-appointed shared bathrooms. Everyone on staff was warm and welcoming. Fascinating design touches, with emphasis on re-use. The upholstery in the dining room is fabric from the founder's suits! Very pleasant buffet breakfast. Dinner menu simple, creative, and satisfying. On the shore of the fjord. Beautiful grounds.... More

Beautifully restored and comfortably appointed, country location within 5 minutes of downtown Akureyri. Lovely overlook of horses and the fjord. Great for animal lovers and horse riders, also bird watchers. Hot tub for soaking and watching for northern lights. Super friendly staff, lots of "hospitality interns", young people working for a few months at a time, mostly European. Owners friendly... More

We stayed in Akureyri on our holiday in Iceland and we loved it. The guesthouse is lovely with lots of quirky little touches. There are two very friendly dogs on the property who I fell in love with and you can look at the horses even if you're not planning a riding excursion. Our room was very nice and the... More

Really good location and friendly owner and staff, nice quirky decor and clean rooms and plenty of shared bathrooms. There is plenty of hanger space to dry off dive gear or horse clothes. We sat in the hot tub, watching the Northern Lights one night and the next night we sat in the tub in an arctic blizzard. The bar... More

Skjaldarvik Guest House is just outside Akureyri, on the road to Dalvik; it overlooks Eyjafjordur and has a lovely view of the bay. It's a quiet place, with shabby-chic interiors in the common areas and a sort of dormitory look in the hallways; we slept in a small, spartan, room with just a double bed, a sink and a shelf... My husband and I drove the Ring Road in early September 2014, staying mostly at small guesthouses and alternative lodging. We chose this guest house because we wanted to do a horse excursion; however, the weather that day kept us from going. There were some charming things about the place - the honor bar, for example, was quite nice. Overall,... More

Our main aim was to stay out of town to maximise our chances of seeing the Northern lights without driving around all night. Skjaldarvik did not disappoint! There was aa show just outside both nights we stayed. We also loved the outdoor hot tub and the lounge. We only saw two other guests and felt very relaxed doing jigsaws inthe... More

This guesthouse is located outside of Akureyri at a horse farm. Spacious rooms and common bathrooms, comfortable beds, spotlessly clean. Beautiful surroundings. Very friendly and helpful staff. Northern Lights wake-up service! Superb breakfast (the best we had in any guest house accommodation in Iceland). Nice common space ("living room") with self-service bar and TV. The building is somewhat institution-like (perhaps... More

We spent 14 days in Iceland, usually staying at a different guesthouse each night. Luckily Skjaldarvik was one of the few times we had two nights at a place and we were so HAPPY. The staff was welcoming and friendly, the property very clean with nice touches everywhere. The hot tub out back was in a beautiful setting; we spent... More
