The hotel itself was a bit of a novelty for us because of the automated locks and the lack of staff. Be aware that this means a complete absence of customer service. The check-in was inconvenient because of the timed check-in which did not coordinate with our train arrival time and our six pieces of luggage. We stayed in the... more

There are actually two Omena hotels now in Helskinki. I stayed in one on Lönnrotinkatu street for 2 days and I think this was a newer one. But according to previous posts there aren't that many differences between two. Generally I really appreciate the business idea: indeed they got reed of services that most of the people do not need,... more

The hotel is in a great location and is good value for Helsinki. The service is all carried out electronically, you just enter a code for your room so you never actually meet any staff, just the cleaners in the morning. There is a number you can call for assistance but shouldn't need to as it is all very simple... more

This is a compeletely decent no-frills option in the heart of Helsinki. The location is just fantastic, in the middle of lots of bars&restaurants, shopping etc. The concept is a sort of "Ryanair-hotel", i.e. you'll get a clean room but absolutely no service. You'll have to do the reservation yourself online and once at the hotel you'll see no personnel,... more

Jun 26, 2009 | Trip type: Friends getaway

I like other people who stayed here had mixed reviews of the hotel. Two friends and i were sharing a room at the Omena for our trip to Helsinki for the Helldone festival. One of my friends ended up not being able to make the trip due to an injury. Even down to two of us, it was a bit... more

We visited Helsinki as part of our Europe tour. We choose the hotel primarily for its price. The concept is cool too - when you book a room you get a code which you need to enter to access the room. The location is great too near the Kamppi Centre which is also the metro station and is 3 minutes... more

We flew Finnair and decided to stop-over at Helsinki for 2 days on our way back to India. We choose Omena primarily for its rates and the concept of no people in hotel! They give you a code once you book the hotel and thats all you need. Just enter the code at the entrance door and for the room... more

I stayed in Omena hotel on Eerikinkatu in November 2008. I do agree with most of the reviewers - the rooms are ok, the prices are very friendly (especially if you book well in advance), location superb. Since there is no breakfast buffet, I really appreciated the opportunity to make coffee and use the microwave in my room. However, I... more

I liked the idea of a hotel without people. Check-in was really quick - enter door code and go straight to the room! No queueing. The microwave and fridge and TV are great. I stayed for 5 nights in Helsinki and have just a couple of grumbles: 1. Paper and plastic disposable cups. With internet and flat panel TV, can't... more

I agree with previous reviews. The rooms are great. Clean, modern, great bed etc. The bathroom is small but ok. The fridge and microwave saved us some money as we had lunch in the room rather than eating out in expensive Helsinki! Also it was very quiet. My concern really is (maybe I'm showing my age here...) is that I... more
