I loved this place! My room was actually a FULL APARTMENT...complete with balcony on the top floor. I was VERY pleased. It's very close to the outdoor market and the bay. The city center is about a 20 minute walk, and, even in the rain, it was a scenic stroll. I loved it. The cost was so low that I... More

A good choice between standard hotel room and cosy self-catering apartment. We have an apartment with 1 bed-room with a fire-place, kichenette and sauna. The location is great you could walk to the center in 10 mins or use a tram, the proximity to piers is helpfull as you could enjoy a bay cruise or even trip to Stockholm or... More

We've stayed at Hellsten earlier and recalled it was a pretty decent, affordable place for a family of 4. Maybe there are more recently remodeled rooms but what we got was shabby (stained walls and worn, outdated furniture) and essentially the bare minimum. It was hot in Helsinki when we arrived and the apartment was so stuffy, actually pretty close... More

I found the location really convinient and it was good to have more space than you would in a standard hotel room. It was nice to have a fridge and the option to cook for ourselves too. It's not luxurious, no, but for the price, it's definitely worth it. I would recommend staying there for the location, room size and... More

Helsinki is very expensive, so the Hellsten represents good value. What I liked was the convenience to public transport and as I had come specifically to see something on Suomenlinna Island, was pleased to find the ferry down the road. When I arrived quite late on a Sunday evening, as the reception is not manned, there was another person who... More

I stayed here b/c I needed a room ASAP and got a great price on Orbitz (+ a coupon from Retail Me Not). I would only stay here again for the right price. The apt I got was clean-ish, but tired. There were 2 burned out light bulbs and pretty much everything could have used a good deep cleaning. The... More

Before booking here, I read quite a few very positive reviews in German, but since our own experience I've read more and realise that there are also many negative ones. So, it seems a matter of luck whether you get a clean and functioning apartment or not. Most of the complaints are about lacking cleanliness, and this was one of... More

Stayed here for 2 nights and would not stay again. Apartment was clean and had enough room but was very plain and uninspiring. No toaster and no oven, and 2 grill plates that did not heat up enough for a toasted sandwich. Lift that stopped on a landing between floors so suitcases had to still be carried up or down... More

As an independent solo traveller, I like being on my own and don't require much in the way of amenities. However, it's unlikely that I'll stay at the Hellsten Senate again. It's a real shame, because the apartment was very spacious given the price, and the location is convenient; the minuses were a bit too much for me, though. Minuses:... More

I slept there for only one night for professional reasons. It was quiet, all was clean and the beds were comfortable. It was very practical to have two bathrooms in this apartment where we were four. A lot of space for us all, and very well situated (not far from the Tuomiokirkko Cathedral). The only bad point was the reception... More
