The Valtionhotelli in Punkaharju is situated in one of the most scenic places in Finland. The hotel is an old imperial mansion, and offers quality lodging with a superb breakfast. The surroundings offer nice hikinng routes and the nearby Lusto centre gives a hindsight of the history of Finnish forestry.

Beautiful place, the surroundings are stunning! Most friendly welcome, they made us feel like very special guests. Yet there was a homelike atmosphere, a genuine warmth over the place. Our room was not too spacious byt we had all we needed there. Clean and neat. Very quiet as well. Excellent dinner in the beautiful dining room, friendly and professional service... More

Careful, this is not an average hotel. The average rating comes from the highest possible rating for the location, the architecture, the "charme" of the place. And a very poor rating for the hotel management. The historic building would require important extraordinary maintenance. The weekest point is the toilet, old and smelling bad. The cleaning service is absolutely unsatisfactory. The... More

Good that I didn't consult TripAdvisor before going here. We would have missed a real gem if we had believed some of the other ratings. The hotel is a really romantic place, beautifully set in the middle of the forest at a lake. Built in 1845 (the Villa for the tsarina in the 1890s), the wooden buildings are a place... More

The accomodation value is rather poor, and this comes down to room facilities generally speaking. Simply, the beds are strange, not really too soft, but uncomfortably bouncy. The same can be said of bathroom, really dated, mediocre quality, the cleanliness helps, and the good condition, but does not make a mark for any relevant price/ quality category. The above is... Valtionhotelli might be a bit pricy, but there are some things that you won't find anywhere else. Firstly, the place (and the nature around) itself are really worth seeing. Lakes, forests, ridges are so beautiful that hotel itself was born since the Russian emperor himself wanted to enjoy the area. Thus, the hotel itself was built along the 19th Century... More
