Despite being over 150 years old, time has been kind to the Hotel Royal Gothenburg. Beautifully maintained, the owners manage to balance respecting its heritage with the beautiful old stairway and flooring, while ensuring the rooms have a touch of modern and freshness about them. Check-in/out was absolutely painless, and the staff more than happy to help us out with... More

Some cities grow into themselves and Gothenburg seems such a city. Yes there has been a property boom, of sorts, and a corruption scandal that seems to go with such things (even in Sweden!) but not-with-standing the paucity of leadership experienced by this port city, its development seems to have an organic quality that allows for a certain quality of... Maybe the oldest hotel in Gothenburg! Nicely renovated with modern rooms. Vera friendly staff. Perfectly situated in the city center. Not a all a chain hotel, much individualism. Great stay to be repeated.

Recently stayed for 5 nights whilst working in Gothenburg, lovely friendly hotel, warm welcome always from the reception staff (special mention for John and Tina) nothing is ever too much for them. My room was a single, slightly small, but a good sized bathroom with lovely big shower, and room had everything I needed, with a comfortable bed, so plenty... More

Stayed here 2 nights. This is an excellent location: a short walk to the train station, the pedestrian streets with lots of restaurants, a longer walk to a couple of museums. We asked for quiet and got it, a clean, attractively furnished, but rather small room on the 4th floor. Bathroom was very small. One thing they could improve on... More

I was on abusiness trip and had to extend an extra day and to do that had to change hotel from the one I stayed all week to the Hotel Royal. Once I got there the Hotel immediately appearead much nicer than the pictures I had seen on the web. The single room I was assigned was exquisite and it... More

Had a 1 night stay here for a concert and was not disappointed! This was my 2nd trip to the city and the location was perfect! The room itself was on the small side, but for 1 night this wasn't an issue. The afternoon tea and homemade cake was a lovely touch and enjoyed this in the hotel courtyard. The... More

Great hotel with a bit of history. The hotel and rooms were very clean, rooms individually styled with very comfortable beds. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Brilliant location, in the centre and near to the station where you can catch the bus to the airport. The breakfast was great and check out time was 12pm which was brilliant... More

We stayed at Hotel Royal and found the rooms to be comfy and the staff friendly. HOWEVER, when checking in, we were told that the hotel contracts with a particular "secure" parking garage and told us to park there. Beinv reassured that it was safe, we left the luggage that we didn't need for the evening in the trunk of... More

I have to admit, I'm mostly a "no frills" traveller, so I don't usually book fancy hotel rooms. But I'm also a lover of all things historical, so I booked my first reservation here on a trip in the fall of 2012 when I learned it is the oldest hotel in town (and centrally located, and had a relatively affordable...
