All rooms have been recently refurbished and are now state of the art and comparable with a Le Meridien. Air condition is currently not available at the hotel but should be fitted shortly. Have stayed at this hotel on a couple of occasions, while golfing in the Karlstad area. The hotel is in an old builing next to river, and close to the town square - really nice location. The initial impression on entering this hotel is of faded grandeur - I only wish the grandeur had not faded quite so much! Our rooms were filthy and had not been redecorated for at least 15 years. Karlstad is a pretty and welcoming city, and this hotel, which has served the city for several centuries, is a good introduction. Furnished with antiques, the rooms are clean and spacious. Fans of Semla Lagerloff will want to check out the stained glass windows on the grand staircase. Be warned: the elevator is “vintage”, meaning its wonderfully ornate but tight.... more
