up: nice & clean, staff is helpful, breakfast is ok, got a junior suite for the price of a single room. down: couldn't sleep well w/people making noise in the next room. little confusing with the parking lot a hotel entrancs at night arrival. the hotel is undergoing some improvements - so hopefully thing will be better shortly. more

I stayed at the Porto Rio for 11 nights for a conference in the area. There is the main hotel (which, yes, smelled like an ashtray) with the casino (at the time, 15 Euro cover for men, none for women) and the bungalows. The bungalows are separate from the main hotel. Mine was very nice and had a patio. It... more

I stayed two nights at the Porto Rio. My room was located in the Arthemis annex. First problem: the concept of non-smoking room does not exist at this hotel. The whole complex is straight out of the 60's-70's... and in particular so is the design of the rooms. The A/C unit in my room must be the original one and... more

We stayed at the Porto Rio as a part of a coach tour group. It was listed as a 3 star but looking at the outside of it and the lobby you are sure it is a 5 star. The lobby is huge and beautiful. The hotel is older and the rooms (regular ones anyway) really reflect it. While the... more

Had it not been so late at night and had we not been so tired, we probably would not have stayed at this rundown, shabby and uncomfortable hotel. Let me first say, it's hard to find a comfy bed in Greece, but we found better beds in 2 and 3 star hotels, and this is supposed to be a 4... more

We recently traveled to Patras Greece to visit family and searched for the nicest hotel we could find. We chose the Porto Rio because it was a 4 star. When we drove up the exterior looked like a run down hotel from the 70s. The lobby was smoke filled as were the hallways and rooms. Staff was average. View from... more

The hotel's advertisement said "from every room you have a view of the sea or mountains". Our view consisted of a side view of the casino. Unfortunately a lot of people smoke in Greece. Our room just stunk of tobacco smoke. Even the pillows and bedding smelled of tobacco smoke. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon and their lounge area... more

Great Location, we hope the new new bridge being built to Anderion (think thats how its spelt) doesn't spoil the lovely views from the super beachside pool Patras is now a charming modern city with excellent shops, bars, restaurants and tavernas. The town of Rio has excellent restaurants, tavernas and nighlife close by. Make sure you don't eat too much... more
