We spent 2 weeks at the end of September in the Jo-An palace in the heart of Rethymnon. Excellent location, the old town and beach are within easy walking distance and the many other attractions of Crete are easily reached by nearby bus station. We received a fantastic welcome and an excellent standard of service throughout our stay. The food... More

We stayed here for ten days at the end of august. The reception and dining staff were excellent. However it's not a 4 star hotel, more like a 3 star. Ask for a room facing the street.Hotel is close to the old town. And Rethymnon is a lively and interesting city. The food was average and sometimes poor. Next time... More

We have just returned from a week at Jo An Palace. It is conveniently located and the staff are very pleasant and helpful. We had a spacious room with a balcony which caught the sun in the afternoon. But that is where the compliments stop. The food though varied was of a very poor standard. The washbasin in our ensuite... More

Stayed here at the beginning of May. If you choose to stay here, please go with the idea that it is a budget hotel and you wont be disappointed. It is definately 3 star not 4. The rooms are very basic-we only use them as somewhere to wash and sleep (we spend a lot of time out and about) so... More

This hotel might have been a 4 star during the 70s. Today is just an aged hotel with poor rooms and only one plug in the whole room!!! The breakfast was quite poor too. In general I wouldn't recommend it to no one... The girl in the reception during the mornings was very helpful and kind. The rest of the... More

we stayed in this hotel with 11 months old baby and we were quite dissapointed. Room was small. We got a baby travel cot and when we put it next to our bed we didn`t have any free space in the room. Pillows were extremly small and uncomfortable. The bathroom was small and dark. We didnt have any view from... More

- Location: A 10 minute walk from the old town. The hotel provides an excellent base for visiting Eleftherna archaeological site, Arkadi church and the wonderful Cretan countryside. It is very close to a super market store, which makes shopping easy. - Atmosphere: Pleasant. - Decoration: The furniture and decoration were a bit dated, but this is a great value... More

this was our second visity to Rethymnon, mainly due the lovely people we met and the care and attention given to us when around the town. Visiting the Chaplans bar, on the main street, playing music till dawn, with Bill the bartender and George the lovley DJ creating a great atmophere, or to the living room bar with Virgilias, (sorry... Very good hotel for this price. The interior is a bit worn, but mostly clean. Staff is excellent and the location is perfect for those who don't dream about sleeping on the beach. The old town is minute walk away, beach 20 minutes away, parking is free around the hotel (if you can find a spot) and the food is... More

The hotel may have been a 4star at one time, but sadly the décor needs updating, as does the chef in the restaurant. The food needs more imagination and effort, and should cater a little more for western tastes, as rather than catering mainly for eastern European/ Russian etc. I would say the star rating should be more like 3 star....
