The location of this hotel is very quiet, as it is not in a resort, and just outside the town of Rethymnon. There are no discos or loud bars in the vicinity to keep you awake. Yet it is only a short walk into the town, and a slightly longer but perfectly walkable distance to the main Rethymon beach. During... more

Just arrived back from the Macaris Hotel. I had a nice time but please take note of the following before you go. These categories are what most people are interested in: LOCATION - not great. Its actually located just off a main road and is not actually in the resort of Rethymnon itself. If you want to walk to the... more

We stayed at this hotel for 3 days during May 2008. I have booked this hotel via www.hotel-board.com and got a really good price for this period of time. I've read all the review, and I was a little bit skeptical about what I would find there. What I found, was one of the best rooms I have ever stayed... more

We stayed for 2 weeks in this hotel in September. From the reviews I wasn't too sure what it would be like as a bit of a mixture. Firstly, the location is great. Rethymnon is lovely and it really is only a 10 min walk to the start of the old town. There aren't really any bars in between and... more

We booked 3 nights at this hotel through holidayhotels.com. Firstly, the rep at holidayhotels.com had a stand directly outside heraklion airport, and was kind enough to give us a map and some detailed directions on how to get to the hotel - a great help. By the time we arrived at the hotel, it was past midnight. The night watchman... more

I have no complaints about this hotel at all. except when i was due to leave to fly back to england. whilst waiting for my taxi in reception, the reception concierge came over and asked me if I have removed anything from the room. I replied no, and he said that there is a sheet missing from one of the... more

We booked this hotel after reading up about it and its recommendation as the best place to view the sunset from its roof top terrace bar within this 4 star rated hotel. however, when we got there , the roof terrace was closed and all meals were served from the dining rooms even though breakfast was supposed to be served... more

If you like: Sitting on the beach, nice soft beds, entertainment every night & a full al acarte menu, then this probably isn't the place for you. If However you want a nice clean & tidy hotel with free Air/Con & fridge in each room, A nice pool for the odd dip or lounging around (though some times & probably... more

We have just returned from the Marcaris hotel, which is on the outskirts of Rethymnon. The hotel is quite a walk from the main resort area which is reached via a very busy main road with really poor or non existent paths. As you can imagine with 2 small children this can be a problem as the drivers in Crete... more

We have just spent 11 nights in Macaris Crete and i absolutly not satisfied with the hotel and particulary not satisfied with the hotelmanager Manos Manatakis. He is simply the Basil Fawlty of Crete. There is no service at all. He was very rude to us. When we tried to make complaints he woud not accept them and for the... more
