Stayed here for two nights in early May before moving out to a countryside villa. Both the hotel and the staff are charming. The location is great and we loved taking breakfast on the cobbles in front of the hotel and watching the world go by in the harbour each morning. There is a great choice on the breakfast menu and... After more than 10 years in the Chania area where the last 5 has been in the city we this time hit a perfect match for us. This hotel situated directly to the harbour has it all. A web site where the shown pictures, services etc. actually also was what you get upon arrival. There are so many places with... More

I'm writing this review....almost 1 year after I visited the Chrete and stayed in the beautiful Alcanea. Apologies, I forgot to write my impressions at the time of the visit and now,,,,summer is back again and memories of beautiful atmosphere of Alcanea comes to my mind:-). Excellent location (in Chania "old" town), few rooms , some overlooking seaside, superior breakfast... More

Wonderful and unforgettable stay in Rethymno. Lovely and romantic place, services impeccable. Breakfast and dinner high quality, served in a beautiful garden. It’s in the old town a few steps from the venetian harbour and near to the most important attractions of the city. Thanks all, expecially to manager Aliki. We hope to come back soon!!

Just want to agree with all that's been said. We stayed in various places in Crete in Easter 2012 and this is the one I remember most fondly. It's really an amazing building, ottoman with steep staircases and superhigh ceilings. The owners and staff are really nice, breakfasts are stupendous, incomparable location Small footnote. The owners warn you to tread softly... More

A beautiful old building that's been converted into luxury rooms with huge comfortable beds, shiny modern bathrooms and lots of character. We had a little balcony hanging over Chania harbour and loved it in April but I think in the height of the season you may get a better night's rest in one of the rooms without a balcony at... More

We spent just one night at this charming, old, yet hip hotel. The hotel is literally next to the Venitian wall, smack dab in the historic old city and just 50 meters from th waterfront. Wonderful beds, modern and chic bathroom, and overall classy decor. The breakfast was extremely generous, fresh and delicious.

Spent my birthday there in March. The staff were charming, rooms beatifully appointed and very tastefully restored. A proper Greek welcome right on the seafront in the old town with recommendations of where to eat and we had a lovely lunch too.Looking forward to returning in May with friends. The breakfast was stunning too. Thanks

We stayed at the Alcanea for 3 days, earlier this week. It is in a fantastic location, with perfect views of the Venetian harbour and the lighthouse. We were met at the door by Anastasia, and welcomed into a large warm room, which had the apearance of an enclosed courtyard. We were then led to our suite (we had a... More

It is a real nice small hotel(9 rooms I think) that mixes an old building (300 years old) with nowadays comforts. The owners were very friendly and they provided breakfast with traditional local products.I should also note the strategic location,at the end of the old port.A real nice choice for staying in Chania..
