We stayed at this hotel for one night before we left Greece to travel to Italy. It was a pretty good hotel for the reasonable price. There was no restaurant which served dinner and we found it a bit hard to find anywhere close by to eat but eventually found a place on the beach which was reasonable. It was... More

Relatively inexpensive in the Plaka area. Very nice location. We didnt need to take bus or metro to go to the usual spots (Acropolis,Syntagma, Monastiraki, Ermou, other ruins). The hotel itself is a bit dated and the breakfast was just enough to get something in your tummy (honey and yogurt --yumm!-- bread, a boiled egg, coffee and juice, fruit). The... More

We've been staying at the Hotel Nefeli since 1991 and have never had a bad stay. It is right in the Plaka and within walking distance to the Acropolis and central Athens. The hotel is basic with private bathrooms and televisions. The staff is wonderful and treats everyone with dignity and it is easy to feel like family.

We have stayed at the Nefeli in the past, and returned this year (2015). While the accommodations are relatively basic, they are comfortable and the location is excellent. We were greeted each time we entered the lobby, and all our questions were addressed with care. The management is informed (when we made special requests to one person, the others knew... More

I spent 5 days in July at this hotel during the Greek financial crisis. The service was excellent. The rooms are clean. All what you need in a business trip is available. Being in Plaka close to Syntagma square adds more.

First recommended to us by a friend in Athens, we have stayed at the Nefeli two times. It is clean and cheap in a great location, walking distance to the center of Plaka and Monastiraki A decent breakfast is included, with good coffee. Rooms are small, bathrooms are remodeled, and the front desk is welcoming, except for the old man... More

Very nice staff walking distance to Acropolis and Acropolis Museum. The breakfast was pretty good. It is in Plaka but with soundproof windows so not noisy. We give it a 3 since it is very very basic and could use updating in the rooms (bath tap leaky, ants came in room, cabinets pretty beat up) but if you want a... More

This was a nice central located hotel! And with quite competitive price. Even though we have some problems with the travel agency, the hotel was quite helpful assisting us with the issue. At the end, everything worked out well.

We didn't have a lot of money to spend on a hotel in Athens, so although this hotel wasn't particularly impressive - I imagine it is realistically what money buys you at that price in central Athens. And most importantly, the staff were lovely and really made an effort to please us. The location right in the middle of Plaka... More

Staying in Plaka

Neighborhood Profile
Plaka
Due to its proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka remains the area where the majority of foreign visitors stay and play. Its attractive features include small squares, some notable museums and the beautiful Mitropolis cathedral, as well as a host of places to stay, eat and drink. Its pedestrian zones make it a pleasant place to escape from the city’s notorious traffic. Adrianou and Kidathineon Streets contain a number of souvenir shops, offering classier items than you will find in the Flea Market. The most rewarding section to explore is the upper reaches towards the Acropolis itself, where many old stone houses with tiled roofs have survived. Up here you can find leafier corners and the odd quaint taverna with unobstructed views of the ancient rock.
