The Hotel Dryades & its sister, the Hotel Orion are little gems of comfort and value. Being a family run business also makes it a super warm experience. I can't fault this hotel with its super helpful staff, lovely location, terrific value & great housekeeping. An added bonus is the kitchen where you can cook your own meals. Highly recommended... This is a really nice, basic hotel. No luxuries, but wanting for nothing. We had a tiny bathroom and the furniture and decor was pretty dated, but it was really clean and well cared for. We also had two balconies on two aspects of the room. One of the balconies had a great view of the Acropolis and across Athens.... More

This family-fun hotel is situated on a hill overlooking some parts of the city, so be ready to climb the stairs and or take the alternative from the other side. We recommend you arrange airport pick-up/drop off with the hotel. We called the hotel to give us the best room (room 24) facing the Parthenon, lucky it was available, enjoyed... More

My girlfriend and I recently spent two nights at Hotel Dryades and really enjoyed our time there. The hotel is clean, has well-equipped rooms and is in a neighbourhood full of bars and restaurants. The staff were incredibly helpful; on our last day (having checked out) we came to collect our suitcase from reception, whereupon the owner offered us an... More

The Hotel Dryades (& it's sister hotel The Orion ) are two wonderful little boutique hotels in the heart of Athens' creative and alternative area, Exarchion. The nearest metro is Omonia (10 minute walk) but a short cab ride will get you to the hotel very quickly. The hotel staff were very helpful. The receptionist made me a Greek coffee... More

We stayed at Hotel Dryades for three nights and were warmly welcomed by the gentleman on reception and shown to our room. We stayed in a basic room however we found it clean and comfortable; our room faced onto a small court yard, were we could sit outside. There was a kettle and a fridge which were useful, the bathroom... More

I came to Athens to write [work] and travel. I stayed at the hotel for 5 nights. I arrived before ten o'clock and was received by a very nice man. I got a spacious and comfortable room with a balcony including a table and chairs and a lovely view [especially at night] to the Acropolis. The room [and the bathroom]... More

I've just returned after spending 3 nights on a room only basis with my daughter at Dyades. I booked online. We arrived around 10pm. The man at reception was very kind and helpful and made an effort to speak English to us, he must have noticed how bad my Greek was! He didn't have our booking but dealt with the... More

We spent 2 nights in September 2012 in Hotel Dryades. We've booked the cheapest double-room, without view, we did not expect much. To our surprise, it was very good. The hotel is on a dead-end street, so there is no traffic, it is very quiet. The room is clean, spatious, we had a fridge, a water cooker, a third bed.... More

We were a group of 20 people and had booked the hotel with the help of some Greek friends, who also discussed a special discount price. The place is clean and located close to a University campus. The park next to it, is used by Greeks as a place to party at the weekend. So this is not a place... More

Staying in Exarchia

Neighborhood Profile
Exarchia
Exarchia is in many ways Athens’ best-kept secret, discovered by relatively few international visitors. Located behind the main University and Polytechnic buildings, it is unsurprisingly home to many students, intellectuals and politicos. This is reflected in the area’s vibrant street art and graffiti, which seems to cover almost every inch of wall space. Some of the best Athenian tavernas are located here, as well as its most alternative bars and underground music venues. You'll find political bookshops and quirky stores here, yet it is also a neighborhood inhabited by families and older folk. On Saturdays, punks and grandmothers alike head for Kallidromiou Street, nestled below Strefi Hill, to pick up fresh produce at the traditional laiki agora (street market).
