Absolutely brilliant Hotel for many reasons. First of all the lady on reception provided an excellent and friendly service and really couldn't be more helpful and was always available if we required anything during our time at the hotel. We arrived two and half hours early prior to the official check in time and yet we were given our room... More

We had family room 38, which was clean and had an ensuite wet room and TV. There's no lift, so the stairs need to be considered if readers have mobility issues. The area the hotel is in is also not the most salubrious, however, it is quite safe and close to the lovely Iroon square with plenty of cafes; the... More

This review is written after my second stay at the Athinaikon hotel. The rooms and bathrooms are what they are: basic for what you pay for and good for the price. But in my opinion: what else do you need? You are in a historical and bustling city, so luxury rooms may be a waste of money if you're spending... More

At the Athinaikon you get what you pay for, which is not much. The location is good, within walking distance of many attactions. The room is minimal, but clean. The bathroom is less than minimal, e.g. no shower curtain, but again clean, although old. We have booked with 3 children (14, 16, 18) and had asked for single beds for... More

The furniture is basic. Rooms are not very big. Nothing extraordinary. But staff are friendly and very nice. The location is very very good. And it's very cheap. If you are in Athens for a few days, you'll spend most time wondering around anyway. A cheap simple room with aircon is all you need. I'd recommend it.

My friend and I, we are not the kind to be rude to people and when people are nice to us, we treat them the same way. It gives me a nice feeling to leave good reviews on restaurants and hotels, but this is my first time ever, giving a bad review because I never experienced such services given by... More

Room was small and air ventilation was bad. Bathroom has no curtain at all as it was facing the wall of another building but yet, it would be appropriate to put up a curtain. Hotels has no lift. Not recommended for travellers with heavy luggage. Rooms have poor sound proof. We were woken up by the sound of the toilet... More

This hotel is ok for a single person that is looking for a cheap place to stay that is very conveniently located near to the acropolis and public transportation. The rooms are very old & small but clean. The neighborhood looks a bit shabby but I didn't have any problems. The owners are very friendly & helpful.

We chose this hotel through the Internet and it's true to say that it is close to several-historic attractions, it's cheap and the people who run it are friendly. It is on a very busy street and there are nice places for coffee/ breakfast just around the corner. For the best room ask for the family room as the others... More

Staying in Omonia

Neighborhood Profile
Omonia
Omonia Square is as plain in appearance as Syntagma is grand. Surrounded largely by functional blocks from the 1950s and 60s and no longer boasting its underground stalls, the square is now mostly frequented by immigrants and bargain shoppers. The most rewarding area to explore is to the south. Set off down Athinas Street, with the Acropolis gradually coming into focus in the distance, and you will get a sense of old commercial Athens, especially at the picturesque meat, fish and vegetable markets some way beyond the City Hall. The blocks to the west of Athinas are home to many Chinese and South Asian traders, adding a multicultural atmosphere to what was until the late 1990s a very homogenous society.
