Claridge hotel was the worst budget hotel we have stayed at for a long time. Cockroaches, extremely noisy, broken down air-con (i.e. hot as hell), no way to shower without soaking the entire bathroom, dirty in every corner, very worn down, no secure lock to the room, etc, etc. The only plus was a well working wi-fi.

It was a reasonable price for budget travelers like me. i stayed in a twin sharing room with bathroom for two nights for 80 euros. The room and furnitures are old. The a/c and t.v is working fine and the wifi connection is strong. You get to experience an old-fashioned type of elevator which is interesting for me. The location... More

This place is cheap and in a good location. The staff are friendly although English isn't a strong suit. The rooms are comfortable although there is some noise which travels up the stairwell. All in all this is a great option if you're after bargain accommodation which is fairly central to all Athens had to offer.

Although while checking in the staff were very friendly in helping us settle down into our rooms, the rooms were poorly maintained. Was offered a double bed and single bed for the 3 of us with a balcony provided. However once we stepped into the room, we were taken aback by the muskiness and the dampness of the room. The... Well, the hotel was cheap and is not that far for everything you want to see. It is RIGHT next to subway (Omonia). Also, it is a 10 or 15 minute walk to the acropolis area. The area of the hotel and directly around the omonia subway stop at night is not the best, and the hotel itself is really... More

Avoid this hotel, the price might be appealing but, I am 100% sure you will regret booking this hotel as soon as you enter the reception or what's more, attempt to only just confirm your reservation by phone and you will realise what sort of people run this hotel. This is what happened to us, I was looking on a... More

The hotel is quite poor. Friendly staff though and helpful. At 40 EUR a night during our stay. One double and one single bed, no breakfast included. Free WiFi was a positive side and room was clean although only 2 towels were provided, one bath and one face towel for the three of us. Only soap and no shampoo provided.... More

When we arrived at the hotel, we were negatively surprised at the overall appearance of the building, although the person at the reception was very friendly. First, the images provided did not respond to the reality. It must be noted that we were "welcomed" in a small, depressive room for three persons. Second, the beds were very uncomfortable and the... This place was terrible. The rooms were small, dirty and the double bed was barely bigger than a single. It does not look anywhere near as good as the pictures!!! On top of that the owners were very rude and didn't seem to have a clue about anything! They shouted at us because we booked too short notice! After telling... More

Staying in Omonia

Neighborhood Profile
Omonia
Omonia Square is as plain in appearance as Syntagma is grand. Surrounded largely by functional blocks from the 1950s and 60s and no longer boasting its underground stalls, the square is now mostly frequented by immigrants and bargain shoppers. The most rewarding area to explore is to the south. Set off down Athinas Street, with the Acropolis gradually coming into focus in the distance, and you will get a sense of old commercial Athens, especially at the picturesque meat, fish and vegetable markets some way beyond the City Hall. The blocks to the west of Athinas are home to many Chinese and South Asian traders, adding a multicultural atmosphere to what was until the late 1990s a very homogenous society.
