The Polis Grand is on the perfect boundary between inexpensive and conveniently located. It is a mere 30 minutes away from the furthest go-to Athenian site on foot - we didn't catch a single taxi or tram! They even provided maps and booklets! The room itself was fully furnished and well-kept - perhaps the only drawback was that we were... More

This is my fourth time in Greece, my husband's first, and the hotel is perfect for us both, which is hard to find with such a discrepancy in experience. Its location is absolutely ideal, 20 minute walk to the Acropolis, even closer to the "main drag" for shopping and eating, and the staff is absolutely perfect! As a tourist, it's... More

This hotel follows a pretty standard corporate style, and this means it is easy to know what to expect from it. The hotel was reasonably priced, is very clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. Overall I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel, I found it to be well located and very comfortable. It fully met my expectations... More

Convenient location. My room was comfortable and clean and that's the main thing I expect when travelling for business. They were doing some renovations so the roof bar was closed and I couldn't enjoy the view of the Acropolis.

I stayed in this hotel 5 days. The hotel is in a nice position and the staff is kind, above all at the reception. The rooms are spacious need some maintenance), good breakfast and nice lounge, The negative points no central heating but only conditioner and NO TV CHANNELS, only one news channel per country, so it's impossible to watch... Dear Gloria K, thank you for selecting our hotel for your recently visit in Athens. We have adressed your issue internally and we are planning until the end of year to improve these facilities. At the moment we are at the finish of our winter refurbishment where we have changed some carpet floors, changed to state of the art electromagnetic... More

You can't beat this location-- within walking distant from tourist areas, shopping, and restaurants. The rooms are pretty basic, but clean. Don't expect, too, much for the price. However, the service was great. When we arrived, our room smelled like smoke, but they were so accommodating and moved us immediately. When we needed restaurant recommendations, or help with getting a... More

The hotel is located in a rather ugly part of town and in a rather ugly concrete building, however the location is quite convenient being close to the metro and museum and just a 15/20 minute stroll to Plaka and the Acropolis. The hotel itself is pleasant but nothing special. The rooms were fairly well proportioned but had an awful... More

Staying in Omonia

Neighborhood Profile
Omonia
Omonia Square is as plain in appearance as Syntagma is grand. Surrounded largely by functional blocks from the 1950s and 60s and no longer boasting its underground stalls, the square is now mostly frequented by immigrants and bargain shoppers. The most rewarding area to explore is to the south. Set off down Athinas Street, with the Acropolis gradually coming into focus in the distance, and you will get a sense of old commercial Athens, especially at the picturesque meat, fish and vegetable markets some way beyond the City Hall. The blocks to the west of Athinas are home to many Chinese and South Asian traders, adding a multicultural atmosphere to what was until the late 1990s a very homogenous society.
